Portal 2 is downloading an update of just under 300MB, before the game is even out...



Decryption files, perhaps? I've never pre-ordered on Steam before so I dunno how long before release decryption stuff downloads. I kind of suspect that's what it is though. This may be further confirmation for tomorrow...!

I already preloaded; that was done on Tuesday. But a second download auto-started today, with an as-of-yet unexplainable 300MB of mysterious additional content.

There's now text under the timer. What is this "final test"?

I have a somewhat off-the-wall theory:
-There's been so much talk of early release for Portal 2, and the whole "4/19/2011_7AM=4/15/2011_9AM" thing seems too significant to be nothing.
-Now, all of a sudden, there's mention of a "final test."
-In the past, Portal has been described as a "testing initiative."
-Portal 2 on Steam mysteriously includes Portal 1 as the sole "bonus," despite roughly 70% of everyone who will buy it already owning it.
-What if, by some crazy chance, the "final test" merely requires you to play through Portal 1 from start to end? Or perhaps a new set of chambers they might add to it in a patch tomorrow? After the completion of which Portal 2 will unlock? (Or you can just wait until 4/19.)

It makes sense, for now. Might be unlikely, but it'll keep my hopes up until tomorrow morning at least.

Whatever the "final test" is, I hope that it's accessible to everyone, and that perhaps there really is Portal 2 at the end. I'd be rather disappointed if the repeated hints towards early release ended up being nothing (which pretty much requires the entire ARG so far to mean nothing - what else has been gotten from it, after all?).

I completed a playthrough of Portal on Friday. I certainly hope they aren't going to make me do it again!
