Sooooo, anyone else out there who plays/has played Warhammer or Warhammer 40k? If so, what do you guys play?
I'm just getting started. x_x Yes, I'm pretty sure I know what I've fallen into. Alot of time and $$ spent! But I'm addicted to RPGs and tabletops, soooo it just might be worth it.
My starting army is going to be Daemonettes of Slaanesh (fitting, don't you think? ;P). So far, I have two sets of 10 Daemonettes, one set of Furies, and a Keeper of Secrets. I'm thinking of sticking with the twenty Daemonettes and have the Keeper of Secrets as my hero. I wanted the Masque at first, but the Keeper is just waaaay more powerful. But I also haven't worked out the points just yet either, so it may or may not work out.

2.5k Blood Angels
2k Empire
2k Tomb Kings
I came back to the hobby recently after a brief (5 years) hiatus and discovered that unlike before, I really like the painting aspect. I used to just slap paint on so I could get 'em on the table. Obviously, not very happy with my minis as they stand.
I was going to start a new army but when I was in the game store some guys were playing Warmachine and I instantly fell in love with it.
Plus, on a student's budget, it's quite a bit cheaper and the variety of strategies is greater.
Edit: Things I wish I had known when starting out:
- When considering cost, factor in the ridiculous cost of paints. You might be happy with the starter set at first, but you'll quickly want to add more variety. Adds up quickly.
- Google 'wet palettes'. Don't pay for one! They are easy to make and will save you time and money. I started using one a couple months ago and I'm enraged with myself that I never bothered to before.
- As tempting as it is, don't buy your army all at once or in big chunks. Stick to one unit or unit + character at a time. Never more than 10 or so models. It's incredibly disheartening to look at a sea of gray when you start to paint. If you really just need to buy a bunch of minis all at once, put all but the ones you're working on out of sight.
- Except for characters/solos, paint in batches of at least 5. Painting one at a time will take forever and can be discouraging, and painting in batches of 10 or more can be equally as discouraging because it takes so long to see a finished mini.

Re: Warhammer & Warhammer 40k
I used to play Eldar. I bought my army in one batch (MISTAKE) and therefore I'm still stuck with the crappily painted bunch. If I had a bit more money, I'd probably start over and enjoy it more. That said, that would require me to have tons of time that I really don't have...
