Re: Starcraft 2
I guess it was only a matter of time for me to have my first run-in with DRM problems, but I can't play the game.
I physically have it. It is installed on my cpu. The key has been authenticated but every time I try to log in I get a "TEMPORARY OUTAGE" error. I can honestly say that I cannot remember a time I have ever been this enraged by a video game.
I found this thread...
http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic ... 833?page=1
...which seems to indicate that somewhere along the line my bnet account was switched to a different region...which is complete BS. I can't even voice the problem on the blizzard forums without wasting a guest pass as I cannot log in to make a character.
So from the sounds of it I need to wait to get a hold of a blizzard support person to switch my account to the NA servers.
I am in a terribly bad mood.

Re: Starcraft 2
How did you get your copy of the game Shady? Sounds like you didn't get the NA copy, did you order it online? Also, not too sure this is a DRM issue rather than a version switch up.
Re: Starcraft 2
I bought the physcial copy from Gamestop and I've played dozens of hours on the beta already.
From that thread it sounds like a technical issue on Blizzard's side. Someone got a hold of billing and they told him his account was setup for Korea, which he claims did not occur from his end. Considering my own situation, I have no reason to doubt his story as I didn't create my bnet account (not SC2 servers...bnet account) for Europe.
It is DRM though. What else would it be? I have the CD, the game is installed, and the CD-key has been accepted and...CAN NOT LOG IN.

Well after nearly two hours of being on hold I got through to the billing department. They informed me that my Bnet account (the same one that is linked to my US address) is set up in Europe and my SC2 game is set up in N. America.
Unfortunately there isn’t even a fix on the horizon as they cannot open my EUROPEAN account to fix the region or transfer the game to a new account. Funny how this wasn’t an issue when I played WoW or the SC2 beta and then BAM “your account is European”.
So enjoy the game guys. I’ll just be sitting here raging.

Wow, that sucks Shady. Well its not DRM its just a major screwup on their side with the localization. You're the first of the people I heard having this issue and I wish you a speedy fix. Just keep an eye on those forums since it seems like others are having the problem too, also head over to team liquid, a more organized and moderated forum may make it easier to find a solution.
And Dark, he's talking about within SCII.
So I finished the storyline yesterday, took a total of 20 hours and I only had 2 failed missions on hard. The final mission gave me some trouble until I learned it better.
I'm ranked gold for 1v1 and still in my placements for 2v2 random. However, I only won 1 of my so far 4 placements games and I solo'd that one. For some reason I never get partners who build more than 5 units the entire game.

Re: Starcraft 2
even if i wanted to play it i couldn't at the moment as my battle.net account is in limbo from being hijacked. I first emailed about my wow account almost a month ago now and it is gettign quite rediculous.

Alright cool dan!
I'm sure if you want some quick tips you can ask maybe me, biker, or unsmart. I believe we all have a pretty good hold on how this game goes and each have a decent feel of one race.

Re: Starcraft 2
I played the single player on normal to pretty much rush through it. Normal is definitely too easy though. Haven't done all my placement matches yet, just one 1v1 and a 3v3.
Yesterday iOwn and I did a 2v2 on practice mode... I wouldn't suggest doing practice mode even if you have any rts experience at all. The main reason is that it is played at a lower speed and when you graduate to the normal league you are going to be overwhelmed by how much faster it is. Practice league is soooo slow. I'd suggest doing the challenges and try to get at least bronze/silver on all of them. Or do the coop vs the comp stuff to learn basics in a no pressure environment.
As Big Biker said, teamliquid.net is a great Starcraft community. Heck, it's probably the best one out there. It is heavily moderated and it's a great source for information. Be warned though, it is very unville like. Many of the people there are very elitist and are competition oriented. Many of them have man crushes on Korean pro gamers, mostly Reach the Man Toss.
Another great source of information is the Day9 Daily. He puts on a show most weeknights and it is very entertaining and pretty informative. I credit it with my being able to get to platinum in the beta without playing broodwar for at least 7 years. Here's his blip account's archives, I'll try to find some good episodes to link later. http://day9tv.blip.tv/posts?view=archive&nsfw=dc
And here's his streaming channel http://www.ustream.tv/day9tv Shows are mostly around 7 pm PST Monday-Thursday
