Sounds like there will eventually be a pay option to get into the beta guaranteed along with getting other "Founder's" perks too.

I'm being incredibly cautious with this game. I'm questioning phrases already like "Premium Account" and having to pay $60 for initial stuff that on paper doesn't sound like much. Still, this is the best candidate for new go-to game.
If they eff it up, I think you and I should get our firebombs and visit their headquarters.

Done. My heart will be very sad if this turn badly.

So when does beta actually start?

This could be really cool. I had a lot of fun playing that first mech game for the original xbox. Some series mayhem to be had.

You are thinking of the wrong mech game. This will be more like http://www.mektek.net/projects/mw4/download.html which is free and awesome.

I'm missing the weird joy that I had from rolling dice for the hit locations on an SRM-6 and watching all of them hit the target's head.

I think you mean which is ancient and clunky, and doesn't recognize new graphics cards so you have to use software rendering (which requires dropping your resolution).

This series has been dead a long time clay I dont know what to tell you. If you are expecting an 11 year old game to look like Crysis you are sorely mistaken. This game is much more comparable to what you can expect from Mechwarrior Online than MechAssault for the xbox (gameplay wise not graphically).

I'm well aware that it is ancient, and that its graphics are ancient. I still play it from time to time, which is why I had a factual basis for my post.

Veering off-topic slightly, I looked at Sarna.net a little while ago to see if the Wars of Reaving material had been updated (it was) and looked at some of the new designs.

The feeling I had then was probably the same one that happens to people when they miss out on a bunch of TF2 updates, in the style of "What is... all of this... stuff?"

I played the beta maybe twice. I wasn't that impressed.

Another gameplay video.

It occurs to me that another thing I miss from the boardgame is making things fall down when they're not actually destroyed. You could really mess up someone's day by forcing two or three consecutive Piloting Skill rolls.
