Was there ever a terraria theville server?

Post by Perfect Villain » Sun Apr 19, 2015 12:31 pm

I honestly find Terraria to be as fun as minecraft and also has just as much replayability if not more, was there ever a Terraria server on theville? If not i think it would be awesome to have one as i enjoy the game but was always stuck playing with randoms who ran a server instead of a vast amount of people i knew on one server...

I've played small games with folks but not ever on a permanent server.

I had a server that a few people played on, I know some other people did as well.

I started playing a couple of months ago and I liked it, but stopped playing it. I wouldn't mind playing with some villuns.

I just want to point out that that there's a brand new update to Terraria on the 30th if we want to get into it: http://forums.terraria.org/index.php?th ... g.20617%2F

I personally would recommend starting in the new Expert Mode since it seems to be tuned to multiple players playing in the same map.

O ya and there now steam multiplayer support!

I'd enjoy playing with you guys once the update hits, as long as you're all ok with explaining everything to me. I enjoyed what I played a few months ago, but I wasn't totally sure of what I was doing.

The game doesn't have a Linux server so it's a little tricky to get one running. It's also hard to tell if it's working since I don't have the game.

Cool. :D

I don't know anything about this game, so let me know if any settings should be changed. I chose the largest map size so if it's too large I can regenerate it.

By the way, this is a 3rd-party server that works on Linux so I'm not sure how long it will take for it to be updated to support the new version when it comes out.

O wow I didn't expect you to get the server up so soon Stevo!

Just one small thing, in Terraria 1.1 and 1.2, you needed to start on a new map before you could experience all the new features. I kinda expect things to be the same with 1.3 so we might need to restart things again on the 10th.

However I think we can keep items we collect on our character (in their inventory) so we could just "pick up" items that we want to take on the 1.3 map I guess.

Also I wanted to see if we want to try on "Expert Mode" or not:
Expert mode can now be toggled in the World Creation Menu. This will trigger a host of changes, all designed to provide a greater challenge with the promise of greater rewards. Some of those challenges are listed below:
You stay dead longer before being able to respawn during boss fights.
Boss health scales in multiplayer depending on the number of players.
Weaker enemies gain increased stats as the players progress, starting in hardmode.
You drop 75% of your gold upon death.
Enemies can pick up your gold when you die and attempt to run off with it. Kill them to retrieve your loot.
Monsters have a small chance to spawn in towns.
Some normal enemies have been given new AI.
Bosses have been given new AI.
Bosses will drop Treasure Bags containing powerful expert exclusive items to reward those up to the challenge.
Pots now drop more stuff when broken.
Ice Monsters gain an additional chance to freeze upon hitting the player.
Quest rewards give more money.
Bats have a chance to give the new Feral Bite debuff. This debuff will increase player damage but lower player health regen. This debuff will also cause other random debuffs to be applied to the player
Life Regen isn’t as effective unless the player has the Well Fed buff.
Vampire and Spectre healing is slightly less effective than in normal mode.
The Defense statistic is more effective than in normal mode.

From what I'm reading here, if we want to play with all the new goodies they added in the update, we'll need to play in Expert mode but from the sound of things it doesn't seem that much more punishing. Main thing is, bosses now scale with the number of players present (you can't cheese bosses by stacking players anymore) and that you drop 75% of your gold on death instead of 50% or whatever it is currently.

Although it does seem to make "Hard mode" a little more.... hard.

To clarify on what "Hard mode" is it's sort of a New Game plus thing you can activate once your done with the standard challenges in your world that activates once you kill the Wall of Flesh. It's kind of important to make sure everyone on the server is ready before you activate it because there's no going back and enemies will belong a lot tougher.

I should also point out Terraria isn't like Minecraft where you can sort of do your own thing and ignore everyone else on the server, NPCs are tied to certain places and world resouces are shared by everyone, so it's kind of important everyone works together.

Also I think as long as it's in your character's inventory, you can bring items from your single player worlds to the server (I'd advise against bringing OP stuff until we're at the right level).

My server is currently just a test server to see if everything works right. If it's made an official server we'll probably reset everything. That would be after we get the new version working.
