idea for remember blue ruler - your thoughts ?
We're talking about trying to have one after the TF2 cup. Basically, the concern is with the cup and meleemania going on, there would not be as much focus on the memorial event.
Initial talk is having something in the end of may, or maybe early june...

Why don't we have a BlueRuler night on TV9?

Touching poem, Renegade.
I was only able to know Blue Ruler for about a month before he died. I know that he was very dear to Duke and I could hear them constantly in game laughing it up. It was very hard when he died. He was one of the reasons I started gaming here with Duke. I would be very willing take part in anything to honour him. He was a alot of fun to game with and very helpful to us noobs. Kinda like a cyber papa. I don't know how old he was, but that just was the way he made me feel.

New Villuns remembering vintage Villuns = WIN. Blue represented everything that's great about the Ville.
I have an idea for a small tribute. Keep an eye on Tickles' sig.

It has been said that the measure of a man's goodness is found not in what he does, but in what he loves. He loved this place where friendship grows and the people who make it so.
He must have been a wonderful person to warrant so much loyalty from so many good people.
I wish I could have known him.

I never knew him but I can tell he was a core piece to the Ville. Since I only play on Ville servers I figured I could honor one of the forefathers. I've put the tag on.

I tip my axe in honor of an undoubtedly great man. I never knew him, but I'll wear the tag in his memory.

Well Ive never met Blue Ruler.what is a memorial?when I was about 2
my grampa died,I remember being at his funeral, but why do people
have memorials? I dont visit dead people,or bring them flowers,
I was just curious why people have funerals,I told all my family and friends
''dont visit me or bring me flowers when Im dead,go ahead and enjoy life, also
dont bury me,just burn my corpse, also dont keep me in some stupid urn''
I would never attend someone's funeral ever,no matter who they were.
I dont mean to offend anyone,I just wanted to know why people
attend funerals.Everyone dies, when a person dies,in the end it doesnt matter
because its like you never existed.
BTW if you guys want to PM about what I said thats fine

I think I understand what you mean, but a lot of people here disagree. It isn't about how or why or when Blue Ruler died, it's about what he did while alive. He meant a lot to quite a few people here. He was a good friend and maybe a mentor to some. Perhaps one day it will be like none of us ever existed, but for now Blue still exists in the memories of those who knew him. I never knew him, but I respect those who did and I know that you do too. We all handle the reality of death in different ways. While I may agree with some of your beliefs, let us respect the beliefs of the others here as well.

I used to feel similar, but you must remember that a lot of people have different views.
A funeral can also be a time for people to get together because they have something in common- they knew a person and possibly cared for him or her. I have been to a few funerals that were, to be honest, not for people that I knew. What touched me about the events was the people that were sharing stories and talking about the person that had died.
I agree that my body means nothing after I die and I want my wife to dispose of it in the cheapest way possible. I hope, though, that my friends will get together thereafter. Maybe some of them will meet for the first time, and make new friends, because of me.
The memorial here is to commemmorate someone who was part of the foundation of the community, to say, "The things that this place is about, this person embodied them, and we remember that."
If you don't want to do it or aren't interested, that is totally cool. I know that I won't look down on anyone for not doing it. I feel, though, that there is more here than just a game, and I want to be part of the community, and propogate the values espoused here.

I hope I don't offend anyone if I don't wear the tag. I think what you are doing is important and respectful, but I think that since I did not know Blue Ruler, my displaying that tag would just cheapen the sentiment behind it. Blue Ruler obviously meant a great deal to this community, and I don't want the -RBR- tag to just become another meaningless appellation spammed after every Villun's name whether they actually remember him or not.

The past few funerals I've been too have really changed my whole attitude of them. They focused more on the celebration of their life and the memories they left behind as opposed to the grief and sorrow of their passing. The last funeral I was at was my former coworker, who I worked with in my hometown, and they really did it right. They had the usual prayers and reading, but the people that knew her the most told stories during the service or played songs that reminded them of her. It was really touching.
Blue Ruler was clearly a strong presence in this community. I was never able to know him, and I feel that the tags are more intended for those who had strong memories of him. It doesn't mean I don't respect him, but I feel that my respect should simply be shown in the way that I play and contribute to the community.
