if you didn't like how awkward the wii zapper was you should check out the nyko perfect shot. its about $15 from everything i can see online and on the nyko site. I originally saw it in an electronic gaming monthly magazine. seems like it'd be a lot better than the zapper.

Hmmmm....star trek phaser....or .45...
Excellent recommendation!
What about that cooling fan on that page? Does it run hot?

i'd avoid the intercoolers, from everything i've heard they aren't all that beneficial and sometimes even harmful. so long as you follow the instructions it should stay cool enough

ooo i'm liking that replica looking glock....
and yeah...all cooling fans for all systems are pretty useless unless its for a laptop
.... i would just suggest like replica said following directions but also shutting off consoles and letting them rest

Re: Shameless Wii scalping
After scouring the interwebz, I'm still having a tough time deciding my first games. I'm definitely getting a shooter and something girlfriend-friendly. She wants the Wii to play Wii Sports (bundled), but I'm going to get another to execute my master plan of transforming her into a gamer. Muahahahahahha...
If I can get her to play the shooter games, it will be on like donkey kong.
Anyway, the shooters I'm leaning towards right now:
CoD2
Metroid 3
Resident Evil 4
Red Steel
Umbrella Chronicles
This is a tough call. All look exceptional. All have features which distinguish them from each other. I'm leaning towards Resident Evil 4 or Umbrella Chronicles as she likes horror movies. For me, I imagine I'm going to have fun playing any of the above. Red Steel's gameplay seems very interesting to me.
For the non-shooters, I'm thinking:
Rayman Raving Rabbids (1 or 2)
Smash Bros.
Zelda
While I'm a straight up PC FPS guy, I'm looking forward to trying these games. I'm not going to be surprised if I have a lot of fun playing something "cute" like Rayman or Zelda.
Does anyone have any other games they would recommend?
Thanks to everyone for helping a Wii newb.
EDIT: The pistol attachment that Rep posted is a guaranteed purchase. That thing is too cool for school.

As far as Wii shooters go, I own Metroid Prime 3 (handles very nicely), have heard nothing but GREAT things regarding RE4, I know that Umbrella Chronicles is a Rail Shooter (if your into that kinda thing), know NOTHING about CoD2, and personally hated Red Steel (targeting sensitivity was VERY wonky).
Your non-shooter selection is good across the board IMO (Twilight Princess is not a "cute" Zelda game. The look is very dark. If you want cute Zelda game, get WindWaker), still, try to get the first Rayman Raving Rabbids game if you can manage it. I can't vouch for how good the second one is, but I LOVED the first one. You know, sequels sometimes have a thing with sucking...
Aside fun fact: Your Wii can play Gamecube games. Buy a Gamecube controller while you still can and try out some of the games from that lineup.
I personally suggest you try out Super Paper Mario, but I'm only saying that because I'm a Mario World fangirl, and also Count Bleck is full of awesome and win.
I've also heard great praise about Super Mario Galaxy (has a bit of a co-op mode) but have yet to play it.
For play with friends, Warioware is also a blast (plus, you all get to make fools of yourselves)
Uh... that's about it for now...

Aside from one member of the wVb (his wife is a long-time, die-hard gamer), the rest have video-game-hating significant others. I definitely want to have a dinner one night, and expose them to the Wii.
I love it when a plan comes together.
EDIT: Just looked at WarioWare. Looks like a blast!

Thanks, Buzzy!!!

Also, got a half case of premium Texas beer from Nuckin this week. Ville Love FTW!!!

Re: Shameless Wii scalping
Welcome to the Revolution!
Definitely get Smash Bros, first thing.
I've also had lots of fun with Super Paper Mario and Twilight Princess. Resident Evil 4 was actually very good. I'd played it (numerous times) on the GC, but the allure of the Wii-mote controls won me over, and I'm glad they did. It was a whole new experience.
I'm afraid I can't recommend Red Steel. To be fair, I have never played it, but it's gotten pretty tepid reviews almost everywhere I look. It's got great visuals, but beyond that, I'd rent.
I love the Wario Ware series, but I've yet to get Smooth Moves
That pistol thingy does look cool, but really, I'm not sure how well it would work in practice. Most shooting games require you to still use several, if not all, of the buttons on the face of the Wii-mote. So yes, you can hold it like a Glock in your left hand, but you'll also have to have your right hand on the top of the controller, and adding a Nunchuk to the mix only requires expensive surgery to attach a third arm. Id' take it with a grain of salt, IMO.
Other than that, it's a blast! Now you'll see first-hand why it's so handily winning the console war.

Re: Shameless Wii scalping
First night with the Wii:
I had no sooner hooked the thing up, when my girlfriend started fiddlin' with the Wii mote. We played tennis, bowling and golf. My girlfriend played tennis competitively in high school and college. I had to leave the room when she started playing tennis...I was afraid I was about to get clocked by a Wii mote.
She loved it! I liked the bowling, but I'm too much of gamer. I need levels/weapons/storylines to unlock. It was still a blast playing the sports though.
I went to bed after midnight, but she stayed up half the night playing the Wii.
Got a video-game-hating girlfriend/wife/significant other? Get a Wii.
EDIT: Thanks for the feedback. I think my first shooter is going to be RE4. From what I can tell, I think the gun attachment would be fun on Umbrella Chronicles. I'm leaning towards Rayman Raving Rabbids, Smash Bros. or Zelda for a game we can play together.
