Re: Shameless Wii scalping
When we bought our Wii back in July, we had to catch the store right when they came in. (Both the sales guys at Best Buy and Wal-mart told us to check in around 1 pm on Wednesdays and early on Sundays). After a couple of weeks we found one. In Sept. my sister-in-law and her husband were debating on getting one for their two boys for Christmas. I told them then to go ahead and get one, because there would be no way that they would find one around Christmas time. Needless to say, they waited and then gave up shortly after Thanksgiving.
Even though its frustrating for us as consumers, you gotta admit, Nintendo did an excellent job keeping the demand high for their product which was going against two systems that are better in regards to hardware and graphic capability. My kids love the Wii, and its something that we can all play as a family (my situation is similar, my wife is in no way, shape, or form a gamer, but she will play the Wii). Don't get me wrong, I would love to have a PS3 or Xbox360. I just can't justify it right now.
Edit - forgot to add this tidbit. One of the guys that work for me was tellling me a story about a Wii that sold on ebay for like $,1000 or something like that to a guy in Austrailia. Supposedly they have much fewer in distribution there than anywhere else. Could be BS, but I thought that was crazy.

Re: Shameless Wii scalping
I got mine the hard way, camped out in front of a Circuit City the night before launch
*Wears geek badge proudly*
As for finding one, my brother had a similar dilemma when trying to find one for his son this Christmas. He had the same problem, couldn't find one anywhere he went, and nobody could tell him when to expect one.
But one guy at GameStop
Who told him "Heck yeah, we're getting a shipment this week, I just don't know what day. Stop in in the mornings and check."
Lo and behold, a couple days later, he came in one morning and walked out with Wii
So I guess the moral of the story is to ask questions and be persistent. Not in the douchebaggy ways that Replica's customers treat him, of course, but it never hurts to simply ask.

Heck yeah. It pays to be nice and courteous to people. Sales guys always take a bunch of crap from rude customers. I know what it feels like to be treated like that. I'm always nice and cordial with those guys/gals.

...now that the blu-ray disc will more than likely take over as the high def platform king...the ps3's might sell. might

Re: Shameless Wii scalping
We have a Wii, it almost never gets played. Besides Wii sports, there hasn't been anything that compelling to come along.
I know I'll probably catch flak for this, but Mario Galaxy was only OK.
And no, I'm not a fan boy, I love all video games and systems and have no preference.

If you like Wii Sports, there are a few titles you need to check out.
Don King's Prize Fighter is coming April 1, and is supposed to be a Sim game (you start a fighter from scratch, etc.)
Brunswick Bowling (haven't played it but it looks more indepth than the basic bowling game for Wii.
Tiger Woods Golf ( I hear its fun on the Wii).
Mario and Sonic Games (olympic style games).
I have the latest Madden on Wii, and I used to never play the superstar mode on it until I played it on Wii. I like playing QB.
I'm scramblin all over my living room

Re: Shameless Wii scalping
wii - great FAMILY entertainment - kids and old bums like me
wii sports fun - kid loves galaxy and also wii sims? - weird
Anywho - shamelessly got it off ebay - but not very overly priced - worth it
As for guitar hero iii - looks a terrible game - however when it comes in I will get it for kid - tho, much prefer the idea of rock band (however not on wii until autumn I think)

i highly recommend rock band! the 360 GHIII 'guitar' is compatible with rock band but i'm not sure how it will be for the wii. try and see if your family can wait until its release unless you don't mind spending for two games. but between the two...in my oppinion...rock band wins out.
edit: ..and to get back on topic i still hate scalpers even if it is nintendos fault for screwing up the supply vs demand.

yeah... again its frustrating and i don't mind people asking if we have them, its when people want the entire business history of nintendo that it gets annoying. wll when do you get them? ( about 10am m-f is a possibilty) how ofter( maybe once a week, sometimes more often, sometimes less, it has been known to receive shipments on back to back days but we've also gone 2-3 weeks without seeing one) well how many do you get at a time? ( we've had as little as 2, which sold in about 20 seconds, and as many as 24 last summer which actually lasted about 36 hours... too bad you didn't think to buy one then eh?) if i give you my credit card number can you hold one?( and then buy one for myself online with your credit card number?hahahahha) no we don't hold them cause i don't wanna get stabbed. i've been threatened and yelled at and swore at and told that they will talk to our state representative about it( cause they can do something?) hell, my department manager even called 1800walmart to ask about it and he was referred to nintendo about the problem.. yeah... its good to be the bigger man but this is ridiculous sometimes

Smashbrothers looks really fun, and Mario party was fun for a little while. But right now, the game that gets played the most is Rock Band.
I had poker night at my house a couple weeks ago, instead of re-buying when people went out they hit up Rock Band, it was a bigger hit than the poker.
It also helps that we have a keggerator, Rock Band is always more fun after you have a few

I hear ya, Rep! The only thing that I would ask is that you don't let the morons crap on your day. That way when two nice people (who are clueless about the Wii embargo) ask about it, you don't snort and look at them like they are total idiots (not that you would
).
I wouldn't say anyone has been overtly rude to us, but there have been some snorts, smirks and smart-alecky responses.
I think Mujo works electronics too. I bet he has some stories.

My girlfriend and I were just talking about a piece on the nightly news we saw months ago.
Hanna Montana tickets were scalping for up to $1000.00.
I would hate to think some little kid couldn't go to a show because some greedy pricks made the tickets expensive enough that some parents couldn't afford it.
EDIT: So, Rep. You would want to help a fellow villun, right brother?

My old boss used to buy wii's when they first came out and then would sell them for more. He probably still does it, but yeah... he was sort of a ****ing ***hole if you know what i mean.

quite frankly, the Wii does not follow the rule of supply and demand in a sense. it sells for less than the demand demands it to. So people will buy them and resell them for more because the demand is high enough for them to make a decent buck off it.
and Carpe, you are indeed correct, 4 words: SUPER SMASH BROS. BRAWL!!!!! im gettin it on release day.
