Shameless Wii scalping

So, some of you may remember my post a few weeks ago concerning the revelation made by my video game hating girlfriend. Now, I'm a dedicated PC gamer with little or no interest in consoles; however, if a Wii will bring us together in video gaming bliss...a Wii it shall be! Or so I thought.

Every store here in Huntsville does not have any Wiis. We checked Atlanta for Wiis this last weekend (that wasn't the reason for the trip, heheh). One guy snorted like he had just heard a pretty good joke when we asked.

I have checked several sources for purchasing Wiis online. Evidently, Wiis are plentiful on the good ol' virtual black market...at a SUBSTANTIAL markup!

I have therefore concluded that the reason I can't go down to my local Best Buy and buy a Wii (at MSR) is because a bunch of greedy, opportunistic bastards have snatched them up to make a profit.

All I have to say is that I sincerely hope there is a special place in hell for scumbags like these.

I don't care if it means we never have a Wii...I will NOT purchase one from any of those slimy assrapists.

i hear you DOW..and i feel the same way about ticket scalpers. don't give up on the wii though...keep an eye out for a legit sale because i know it'll be tons of fun for you and your gf. it'll be worth all your effort of caution and anti-scalping.

Yeah, I don't think Nintendo realized just how popular the Wii would become and didn't make many available on release. I mentioned before that many won't be available till late spring/early summer, up here in Canada anyways, not sure about the States, seeing as how they bought up the majority of the Wii's when they were released.

But I agree, it's a shame people are hiking up the prices on the Wii just to make a few extra bucks, it happens with all the consoles. I remember when the PS3 was just released, people were selling them on EBay for 1,000-5,000$. Hope no one was stupid enough to purchase one.

And like Stevo said, it's Nintendo's fault they didn't make enough of them on release. Sounds like they just made enough for pre-orders and few thousand extras for certain stores.

As for Nintendo not making enough of them? That not their market strategy. They want the demand to be high for them for a long time. They had 250k on release day here in the states lol. all gone ofc.... Nintendo lost market share with the gamecube and quite frankly they are gaining it back with the Wii. They keep the demand high so they will always be selling them, unlike the 360 which i know doesnt sell as many any more, still sells ofc, but not as much.

The PS3 has been available and plentiful at every store I've checked. There was a Target in Atlanta that had 'em stacked on the floor because there wasn't enough room in the display case. I can only surmise that Sony got royally hosed with the PS3.

every single day i've goen to work for the past 15 or 16 months has almost completely revolved around the wii. dozens of questions, people waiting, they put the in the ads, they have to line up midnight releases! gah!!! we have a 1 wii per FAMILY sign up.. not per person but per family so if we see you come in in a group your group only gets 1... that is if we have them. the fact that recently they are sending in 2 or 3 at a time anymore is even more annoying.

but what is the worst are the people that are like, yah well i know a ups driver and he said you got some. and i'm like, nope none in the back now leave. and then they say go check again i know you have them. its one thing to be mad... but don't call me a liar.

the PS3 i think woulda been more successful if Blue-Ray had hit the market a year or so earlier.... than they would have to mark up the price because of the Blue-Ray player that it doubles as.
