Is there any way to get my computer to just run cooler?

I know I can lower clock speed but I don't want to lower performance.

To clarify, I don't have heat issues, I just have the issue of my computer room being so damn hot.

I understand science and stuff, all energy must go somewhere and in this case it is turning into heat. I just can't afford to run air condition this summer but gaming in 95f isn't fun.

Fastest, cheapest, and best solution would be the addition of a couple case fans, and/or optimization of the ones currently in there.

Make sure the airflow is in one side, out the other, not both sides pushing or both sides pulling (generally in front, out back, is used). Changing the direction of a fan is as simple as turning it around.

Inside the case, ensure that the airflow isn't impeded by extra wires or cables stuffed in front of them, or cards placed in front of them that don't need to be. Cable management isn't just for looks, it helps with cooling. Get extra cables tied down in out of the way places, like behind the motherboard tray.

Depending on the type of case and case fans you have, there may be fan speed controls. Turn up the fans to a higher speed. This will increase cooling at cost of sound (it will run louder).

If there aren't additional spaces on the front/back/sides for fans, or you don't want to use them, don't forget about slot coolers. They fit in expansion slots along side peripheral cards, and if you get a high end one, can move a heck of a lot of air.


Other basic steps can include things like making sure the case is low to the ground rather than up high, has plenty of space around it, and isn't catching the sun. Being in direct sunlight from a window can be hot enough to melt chocolate, and the inside of a case (especially a metal one) can become like an oven even while turned off.

A very cheap solution is remove the case opening and point a floor fan in there. Dusty? Perhaps, but certainly good airflow.

I bought my case because it has the best airflow of any air cooled tower. I don't have any issues with that. The problem is, it is like running the heater. It's 99f outside and 90f inside. Not a fun environment to game in. I can't afford air conditioning. The only thing I can think of would to make an exhaust pipe leading from my case to outside. It would need fans to push the air out.

I actually house last week. I had my computer set up in the living room and it didn't seem to heat up the house.

You could possibly undervolt a tad. It won't really make it too much cooler, but it would help.

Otherwise I would invest in a window AC unit and only use it when you're gaming.

A place a used to live it, I used a window unit and it worked great. However, where I'm living at now they're against HOA. For future use, do you think water cooled PCs will dissipate heat better?

If the problem is the room being too hot, watercooling isn't going to make your room any cooler. It's just another method of transferring the heat from your computer to the air.

Is there any way to get a variance from your HOA for a small window unit? Otherwise your up a creek without a paddle until you can get central air.

edit: I know you said you couldn't afford to run a/c atm but you're somewhat out of options otherwise. Like you said, it's tough to bend the laws of physics.
