Steampipe
As you know, VALVe likes to make DoDS the guinea pig when it comes to introducing new crap.
Well, the latest new crap that offers nothing to DoDS is called SteamPipe which should make downloading your updates faster...except DoDS never gets any worthwhile updates.
VALVe announced today that SteamPipe will be coming to DoDS on Friday.... *sigh*
L4DoD runs on the new system as I've been testing on a beta server, but it will be a bit of work to convert the two servers over.
Once the servers go off, they will be down until I can get the servers updated and reconfigured.
Just a heads up.

Re: Steampipe
A Valve update that breaks L4DOD? I am shocked!
Thank you for the warning/update.
Still think that you do a way better job then anyone at valve.

Very true, VALVe would be better off with Dog on the payrole.Aardvark Ratnick wrote:A Valve update that breaks L4DOD? I am shocked!

Are you going to use the new custom directory layout for all the custom assets?

Re: Steampipe
I have it set up that way.
The client's download folder will receive any files not present from the Fast DL server.
Hopefully it will be a smooth changeover tomorrow morning.
TV9 is done and ready to be switched tomorrow morning.
Everything works, including SourceMod.
TV4 will have to wait for GameServers to get their act in gear.

Re: Steampipe
TV9 is updated and working.
TV4 is not because GameServers haven't gotten their crap together and installed the new set up.
*sigh*
So we'll have to wait.
I'm concerned to TV6/TV7/TV8 when TF2 goes SteamPipe

One bug to report.
Zombie fast respawn is no longer working, so the game may seem easy now!

Re: Steampipe
OK, here's a short list from my play last night:
TV9 - no problems except the HUD does not display what you have - shield, explosives airstrike - who knows what you're gonna get when you press the "use" key, LOL.
TV4 - HUD never did work on that server. Do I have a shield? An airstrike? Who knows? All the flag capture point are displayed, even though the server only has one flag to capture. The zombies pour out pretty damn quick, so if they aren't spawning fast, I'd hate to see what "fast" looks like. I am figuring out some some of those guys racked up so many points by watching the guy with over a million points. COOP needs to be changed such that if you don't at least TRY to capture, you either lose health, or you do less damage, or SOMETHING that makes guys not use map exploits against the zombies. Get to a place where the zombies can't reach, then stand over them and kill them and rack up ammo and other good drops. A guy could stand in a certain spot the whole map cycle, never cap once and rack up hundreds or even a thousand points, all while never dying. I saw it for myself last night.

Re: Steampipe
Rico in your settings menu turn the overlays on. Then you can see what you picked up, shield, airstrike, tnt.

Re: Steampipe
HUD
To fix the HUD issue -
1. Say !menu
2. Click settings
3. Choose Show Overlays
TV4 HUD
TV4 flags - the SourceMod extension that blocks HUD icons broke with the update.
To fix this, I just made all the flags looked capped by Allies. So now you just have to cap the Axis flags that show up.
You will also notice that as the game goes on you have to cap more flags, especially if you become seriously elite.
I also changed the flag cap time to be easier for single players.
CAMPERS
Damned campers...I know about that. I will have to think of a way of lowering their health - maybe change the gas cloud from the Gasman to something that infects you like the infected one, and make him target people who haven't moved much. Then capping a flag removes any infection.

Re: Steampipe
Dog, I don't so much mind campers - [CotC] stands for Clan of the Camper after all. Back in my Quake and QuakeCTF days, I was an ambush player by choice - I loved letting the other players pick up ammo and weapons for me. But camping in a team game like CTF is sometimes part of the winning strategy. Camping in zombie COOP is nothing but point-scoring. Nothing wrong with that, if nobody else is on the map. Can't CO-OP when there's no "CO" to "OP" with. But someone else is on, there needs to be some cooperation.

Re: Steampipe
Dog,
Some issues have arisen since the update that you may already know about but I am gonna lay them out here anyway. These are all on 9 (IX) by the way.
Flag caps take about 6 seconds regardless of the number of allied victories. This allows the allies to cap out repeatedly. Last night we capped out Argenten 12 times or more. I lost count after 12.
The Zombies don't scale (get tougher, more of them) with each victory.
The UNG doesn't make an appearance until the player count gets above a certain number and then he is sort of scarce.
I am not sure of this one but I think capture area of flags has been reduced and it doesn't matter if a zombie is touching the flag or not. I saw this on Anzio once or twice so I am not real sure about it.

Re: Steampipe
Thanks AR.
Will make a note and see if I can update the capping system to something like they have on TV4.
