This whole process started last October, finding parts either used or refurbished, and I finally got it running on Thursday.
Old system:
Socket 754, AMD Sempron 3000+, 2GB DDR 333, ATI Radeon X800 Pro, SATA I
(not so) New system:
Socket 775 Core2Duo E6420, 3GB DDR2 533, ATI Radeon 4670, SATA II
It has roughly doubled my benchmark scores and I can see the difference in boot times and how everything loads and runs.
Or as I have said to a friend recently "It at least gets me from the Stone Age to the Iron Age."

(and I can finally play CS:GO)
The only new parts were the PSU and Windows 7,
