Nothing is special about them, except that they have the word "haunted" and are purple - kinda like the "Unusual" HHHH from last year.

That, and they'll probably have an collector market mark-up after the event.

In a word, they're PURPLE!
And everyone knows purple items are just more awesome and worth more.

Seriously nothing is different about them at this point, valve might be trolling, or there might be some altered functionality at a later date.

Yes, I just found out I derped. I assumed that you received the free crate because of the popup message "FOOL. Ye have gazed upon the Bombinomicon." I guess everybody get one regardless of weather you click on the book link. Sorry for the mix up.

He could have traded for them, or it's also possible (with enough computers) to set up your own server to farm them.

That's cool that he has all the haunted costume pieces... but did anybody besides me think... "Hey, they are not in the correct order in his backpack. The hats should be on top, the torsos in the middle and the feet on the bottom! How does he live with himself with such a disorganized backpack!" Or is that just me?
