SEGA Steam Weekend Deal

Post by MateoTheBold! » Fri Sep 23, 2011 2:19 pm

The Steam weekend deal is running with 50-90% off their entire steam collection. Part of that is a bunch of sega genesis games that are 74 cents each.

You can cherry pick titles or grab all 40 genesis games for $7.49

Might be worth it for some of you for a trip down memory lane and some of the games hold up even today. I plan on picking up Shining Force 2 and maybe Gunstar Heroes:

Fatal Labyrinth...
Now I have to go dig up all my roguelike games.

Ristar is a great oldschool platform game that I recommend.

There are only a handful of genesis games that i'm willing to rebuy unfortunetly, I was not as impressed with some of the titles it had to offer as I was with Super Nintendo, I was only five when I first remember playing Sonic (Sonic isn't acctually part of the main genesis set, but appears to be sold seperatly for about 50 cents more). The few games that are in there that I'd acctually want I own elsewhere (be it Wii virtual console, physical copy, or emulator rom) and don't particurally want to buy them yet again. There are some pretty good ones in there though. Golden Axe, Landstalker, Vectorman, Streets of Rage, Ecco the Dolphin, and Columns are among my top picks of that set.

As for the rest of the pack, I already own AvP and the Dreamcast Collection. I can't for the life of me get into any of the Total War games. And none of the other Sega titles on Steam appeal to me.

However, for Genesis and Total War fans, great deals all around, trust me. 17 buck for all Total War titles and their expansions, that's tough to pass on if you don't already have it.

Need more Zombies Ate My Neighbors, it's not in there damnit. No Desert Strike either.

I picked up the Dreamcast bundle. Crazy Taxi is a fun game. I have it on Dreamcast and prefer that version better but it is still worth the money.

I'm pretty sure Zombies At My Neighbors is a Konami game.

Are the old-school Sonic games worth getting? I was never exposed to Sonic when I was a kid, but I've been growing increasingly curious over the last few years ... I'm very tempted by $1.24 each.

Totally bought old school Sonic and Sonic Adventure. Now, if they added Sonic Adventure 2...Shenmue...maybe some Jet Set Radio...and...

You know what, just the whole Dreamcast library. Every single game. They were all great.

The four titles they picked for Dreamcast, and while I love Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi, were poor choices in my opinion. Yes, they're Sega classics, but they aren't the popular games. There were threads on SPUF shortly after the horrifically buggy launch of the Dreamcast Pack making suggestions for a pack 2, and there were some really good titles that came up.

Sonic Adventure 2
Skies of Arcadia (as a result of these threads, I went out and bought the Gamecube remake the same day)
Jet Grind/Set Radio (US version was Grind, Pal version was Set, same game though)
Virtua Fighter
Dynamite Cop (my personal favorite)

There were also calls for some of those great third-party titles

Marvel vs Capcom
Soul Calibur

I know there was a lot more, but I can't remember a whole lot. I didn't pick up a Dreamcast when it came out, and by the time my brother bought one, it was already gone.

Oh yes, someone on that SPUF thread mentioned Typing of the Dead.

Relating to the buggy launch of the current Dreamcast titles, while efforts were made to fix the issues, a lot of them persist, enough to not buy the pack in my opinion; had I known, I wouldn't have gone there myself.
-Lack of controller support; this isn't exactly true, but controllers freak out when you try to use them, especially in Sonic Adventure
-Useless config tool; don't know if they fixed this, but the config tool didn't do anything when it was first released
-Save issues; they DID fix this, but the game's didn't properly create save directories when first launched
-Keyboard controls; without a joystick, you're forced to use WASD to play the games, and that doesn't fare well with a 3D platformer or a driving simulator. No problem with Space Channel though, but I haven't bothered playing Bass Fishing.
-Porting issues; many people speculate that these are ports of their respective Xbox360 versions, as evidenced by the fact that if you play Sonic Adventure in another language, exiting the game will ask you if "you want to return to the Xbox 360 dashboard"
