Re: big tf2 update
most of the new stuff is junk or meh. I dont think I will use more than a few of the items with any frequency. It may be tough not having all the "cool new stuff" the guy next door has but alot of it is a liability more than a boon. I was playing with the new heavy stuff earlier and i kept getting smoked when i should have been devastating had to finaly change back to gru and normal minigun.

We already have one example of content that is impossible to get without paying Valve money in the rare items from the crates. I think anyone would have trouble arguing that crates are anything but a cash grab.Dirty Dan wrote:I love this business model. The entire community keeps getting free content, but the people who are absolutely desperate to have everything now can still buy it. What's frustrating to you is your lust to have a complete collection of everything, now. The TF2 game, the one that you play with all the items, is still amazing, and valve is still adding amazing free content to it.
We also have an example of hard-to-get items that *do* impact game play in the polycount pack hats. Maxing out every week since the polycount update, I've managed to craft one of the four polycount hats. At this rate, I'll have them all in about a year. Anyway, on this point, I do think it's possible that Valve may have stopped this particular cash-grab, as the Holiday packs don't appear to require any hats for the set bonuses.
Third, Valve is also clearly making it harder to craft new items...polycount pack increased prices so you need reclaimed instead of scrap to craft non-hat items. Holiday pack increases it to two reclaimed. Next pack is going to be refined.
Can you still enjoy the game without giving Valve money? Yes - I still do, and I have yet to buy anything from the store. I do, however, constantly feel a temptation to every time I get a crate that is useless unless someone (either I or the person I trade it to) is prepared to fork over $2.49 to Valve.

The new medic weapons are actually interesting, the abilities make the medic more specialized in healing =)

I missed that, there's weapons with unique characteristics you can only get w/ a holiday crate?Refuel wrote:The core of any game is problem solving. Cosmetics i have no issues with. Its weapons and actual playstyles that are being limited here. Weapons that arent craftable and only available through random chance with a holiday crate is very offensive to me.
Ive said it all along. I just want the weapons and dont give a damn about hats. I want to have choices to creatively tackle situations in game. Giving the poor kid 3 crayons and the rich kids 100 crayons truly makes me feel that its impossible to have a level playing field. My ville session time says it all. Getting lower and lower by the day. Whats next...?? Pay to get laser sights in vs games of l4d2? Am i just viewed as a cow to be milked? I havent even played since this update came out yesterday or whenever it did and i could care less. I can already see the haves and the have not division with polycount and this just exacerbates it ten fold. happy $#*^*#% holidays.
And i think its a terrible business model. Forcing people to buy keys/gamble to have key fundamental playstyle changes i.e. the new engie wrench is wrong. To take a game focused around team play and cooperation and migrating it a typical class structure (lower-upper class economics) makes me want to vomit.
Ohh you dont have money, sorry you cant take part at the christmas dinner table. Im changing my damn name to tiny tim.

Re: big tf2 update
from what ive read from multiple sources the jag, candy cane, backscratcher, and the steel fists are only available through the holiday festive crate and not droppable. Please correct me if im wrong. If true this forces me to either,,, get more holiday crates and buy keys which i cant do...... or go to a trade server which is worse than a arizona swap meet. Anyone want my holiday crates because i sure as "" cant open them.

Didn't everyone hit the drop cap though?
Edit: Valve response:

It appears they only drop from crates now, it appears there were so many weapons in this update they didn't get the crafting recipes done on time.

Re: big tf2 update
I would doubt that the tf2 team would make game changing items only available for a 2 week window where you have to buy them. Worst case you can only buy now but after the crates expire you can get drops, which would still be pretty uncool, but until I hear definitive proof I'd tend to think that it's all droppable.Refuel wrote:from what ive read from multiple sources the jag, candy cane, backscratcher, and the steel fists are only available through the holiday festive crate and not droppable. Re: big tf2 update
Such anger.
If you're honestly this upset about such things then your priorities must be a bit off. Trading is in the game now. You can get whatever you want. In a week or so every single new weapon will be flooding the market and you can pick them up dirt cheap. The game does not hand them to you immediately after the update, which I'm glad they don't, but they've never made them hard to acquire. Buy things is an option if you're impatient and need everything right damn now. If not, they come in time, and generally not much time.
FYI, I had just about every Polycount weapon less than a week after the update, and I've got a decent pile of stuff from this update already, and I only spent money on one. So...yeah. They drop like candy when the updates are new. Just get out there and play if you want the stuff instead of making angry rants on the forums. Or go to the trading site and see the piles of new weapons people are selling reasonably. You could have gotten a drop in playing in the time it took you to write those
Same anger every update. Just play the game

Well what's the difference then? More piles of new content too soon? This one has set bonuses you don't need hats for. You should have been angrier about the Poly Update than this one.Refuel wrote:Carpe,, i didnt say a single word during the poly update. I'm also not referring specifically to you, but there's always someone who feels Valve is out to slaughter their first-born every update.
Re: big tf2 update
Carpe everyone was pissed off because the "crate weapons" don't drop regularly right now.
I found out from the steam forums that this is a bug and will be fixed soon but if that wasn't the case, everyone would have a good reason to be upset.
O ya and one more thing, Loch n-Load, technically has 2 crafting formulas since there's no demo "secondary".
Loch-n-load: 2 reclaimed + Scottish Resistance- In-game blueprint
OR: Demoman Token + Secondary Token + Scrap Metal

Re: big tf2 update
Of course it's a bug, Valve has always said there would never be pay-only weapons. Seemed from the beginning more likely that there was an errant line of code than a middle finger to the community.
Re: big tf2 update
Yes but it's a good idea to make sure it's a bug. Everyone can be greedy carpe.TheCarpe wrote:Of course it's a bug, Valve has always said there would never be pay-only weapons. Seemed from the beginning more likely that there was an errant line of code than a middle finger to the community.
