You received -263.60 for your post
I think the forum points are broken. I edited a post and received -263.60 (or something like that) for it. I'm also noticing a few people have scores *really* into the negative.

Did you remove a lot of text from editing the post? I saw some people posting about losing points for editing posts and taking away information. So, I wonder if there is a correlation between the two.
Make a big post and get lots of points, go in and take half of it away and lose half your points.... i guess.

Re: You received -263.60 for your post
I've edited a post once a few times and got points, then after editing it more, lost points.
It's just a core component of the forums to keep people from getting a lot of points; although we really do nothing with the points here.

All I did was add a strikethrough to the text and add a sentence. If anything I added to the post rather than take away, and my points tanked way into the negative. I was positive 200-something before.Hamese wrote:Did you remove a lot of text from editing the post? I saw some people posting about losing points for editing posts and taking away information. Re: You received -263.60 for your post
The forums have gotten very touchy about edits for whatever reason. I've have had it allow a dozen edits without change (0.00 points for editing) all the way to docking me several hundred on my first edit, usually for something like correcting punctuation. I've never gained points on an edit since the new point system went in, nor have I received more than 2 points for a new post. I asked Dog about the point loss when I first noticed it happening, and he said it wasn't configured to do that, so something is built in, in a hidden and seemingly arbitrary manner.

I have received positive points for editing a post to be longer (only happens on posts that start a new thread where you get points based on length), but it's always immediately after posting.
I suspect it's penalizing for multiple edits or for the time lapsed since the original post (hence Bullet is losing big points for editing the first post of the trading thread).
I miss getting points for each post based on our age.

Meh okay, I'm just worried about people seeing a negative score and thinking I have a bad rep around here or something.

Don't worry about it, points really are useless. I think the only official event that involves points is the lottery.Ihmhi wrote:Meh okay, I'm just worried about people seeing a negative score and thinking I have a bad rep around here or something.
However, most things involving forum points are just random bets.

As I said, there's nothing to do with them; that's why I have so many.Plinko wrote:Says the dude with 16,000 points. . .

I demand points back for my failure of editing.

I wish I could think of a joke about the fact Dirty Dan doesn't trust banks.MasterChef wrote:I keep mine in the bank.
