Your...Eternal Reward...

Post by Tungsten » Thu Sep 30, 2010 8:25 pm

Let's discus this wondrous new Spy knife and its greatness.

I mean, seriously, you disguise so fast that hardly anyone has a chance to catch on. I even think it's too fast for a sentry gun to lock on. The best part is...if you backstab the engineer and miss the sap...you'll still be disguised. Magnificent. The only hard part is getting that first backstab.

Also, it seems to facestab more than the regular knife.

I hate spies even more already!

This weapon has the potential to change quite a bit of the game dynamic, definitely as far as engies are concerned. Constant spy checking is a must.

I don't know...

seems spies are easier to find when they use it...

but it's still too early to tell for sure.

A good spy doesn't need to worry about disguising fast enough to fool an SG - they can do a Stab/Sap combo without it. The danger is in it's ability to have you swap so rapidly, somebody with you doesn't realize it.

I don't know how you can use this knife with the Dead Ringer, and being a DR Spy I love this knife.

Use the full set and the dead ringer is as silent as the grave

Though I can't get the hang of it, things go terribly wrong if you miss, and getting that first stab takes effort, I think this works better with C&D, but this and DR can be very dangerous.

So far the ER/DR combo is decent. A lot of disadvantages, i.e. Natasha, Jarte Sniper, not being able to cloak till hit, not being able to disguise, but if you're able to get kills, it's pretty sweet.

I've had very mixed feelings about the new knife so far

not being able to disguise at first seems to just be such a big disadvantage...especially on offense if the defending has set up a sentry nest or two.

however getting kills with it has been so satisfying, the initial confusing made it really easy to play it off as if nothing had happened at all. for example I was able to get the jump on a medic heavy combo, I stabbed the heavy and the medic just kept on healing me and eventually ubered me into my team's sentries, it was glorious. :D

on the contrary, getting that first kill has been a real headache, I haven't gotten the chance to try it with the cloak and dagger yet (because I crafted my only one away for the ER in the first place >_<) but I imagine it really shines there. I've also heard that the DR decloak sound is inaudible when wearing the full set with the bonus, so that's something I'd like to try as well.

I see a lot of potential but in reality I still feel it falls short of the regular knife because of the difficulty of getting that first stab. In addition to that, a failstab will set you back to step one, which is a huge drawback.

This weapon is the latest in cutting edge facestab technology available from Facestab City, the one stop shop for all your facestabbing needs.

Since it came out yesterday, I have been on the recieving end of some of the most unbelievably blatant facestabs of all time.
where doing this man.
where MAKING THIS HAPEN.

Fact. Huge fact.

I've been getting facestabbed from people facing me from far enough away that my flamethrower doesn't reach them. This is truly a Kilaak weapon or something.

On maps where many people pile into one area (like the main tunnel on Warpath) it seems that the knife can really help you out greatly. You can stab someone and blend right in to set yourself up for another stab.

I haven't gotten a chance to craft the new items, since I was at a Ranger game last night and had very limited time on TF2 Thursday. Today I'm going to try to craft some of the items and this is one I'm really excited to try. I used to play spy alot, but since I've became a little better a soldier, I've been playing spy so much less.
