Dumb new engy equipment that has crossed my mind:
Force field - replaces the sentry with a semi-transparent wall that deflects all enemy weapons but can be walked through by either team.
Spy detector - replaces the sentry with a machine that uses a laser pointer to finger the nearest enemy spy in line of sight.
Laser mine - like the ones in Halflife. Attaches to a wall and blows up when someone crosses its detector beam.
Powered armor - by upgrading the sentry to level 4, someone can stand on it, drive it around and aim it. The driver doesn't take damage until the sentry is destroyed.
Pants of Power - trade a weapon slot for 50% more hit points.
Trampoline - replaces the teleporter with a jump-pad that can let anyone jump as high as a rocket-jump without taking damage.

I want the EMP grenade back. I loved blowing up sentries/players through walls/floors. Maybe they'll get some "EMP Flare Gun" type thing that locks electronic crap down for a few seconds.
