If you have time to be complaining about what you don't have, you have time to working forward to your goal of attaining that what you do not have. Hop to it.

The problem is, valve has not yet made it possible for us to actively attain a goal (like they said in their blog). They intended item trading, they intended players being able to influence their item unlocks, but they did not implement it.
Without that, It leaves most of us feeling helpless (except for the lucky ones who random the stuff they want). Its not about patience, its about feeling like you can't do anything because you are limited by an incomplete system.
Why should someone be required to have more patience than someone else to get the same amount of unlocks purely based on the roll of the dice?

I really don't know where the new trade system is going, I think if there is a randomized stat weapons system it might ruin the overall balance of the game wouldn't it? I just wonder how it would be done.
It's almost like valve has recently discovered a random number generator and gone crazy with it. The item system obviously, but also the spy crab taunt. What's next?
Also, isn't idling actually working towards new items. Since you're maximizing your chances of getting that thing that you don't really care about but want out of principle?

Well I don't think its cool to bash Valve any time they try something new.
[/quote]
the reasoning behind my original statement is the fact that some people, such as yourself, praise valve because you HAVE EVERY SINGLE NEW TOY, unlike the rest of us.
So i would appreciate it (as well as some of the others) if you didnt tell us cry some more.
The time will come when that line shall be used on you.

eraD considering you have 5/6 of the items ALREADY and some people have NONE I think you have no right to post that or talk.
Anyways idling has served me well as I recieved Huntsman and Jarate tonight. I'll keep running as I go to work but I can't wait to try my bow tonight.
Good luck to the rest of you!
EDIT: SCRUVY! people on the steam forums have found the bug that's causing people to not get unlocks: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/s ... p?t=875567

Wow, it's amazing the amount of passion that people are taking about this topic. Would it be nice if there was some kind of logic to it? Of course. Would it be nice to not get duplicates consistently? Definitely.
People need to remember a couple of things: First of all, Valve doesn't need to update the game as often as they do. They could have easily not given us any new weapons and still made a boatload of money on it. As well, this system is still new, and I think to have people whine about it before they have a chance to work out the kinks is a little unfair. They tried a system to make it so that people didn't just farm for achievements, and I give them full credit for it.
Personally, I enjoy the new system simply because it adds some surprise into the game. And heck, even people getting duplicates is good for a good laugh. People just need to take a deep breath, and remember that the game itself is still great to play, and that this system can only improve over time.

No, it's just a really dumb system.
We're paying customers, Valve does this because it believes this will make it much more likely we'll pay for future games and I'm sure they're finding out if we'll pay for expansions or special content in the future. Just because Valve can afford to take a long, experimental view does not mean they don't do this because they want happy, paying customers. They're doing it to get more happier and more paying customers!
The fact is, they replaced a system that was sensible but possibly frustrating for new players with one that is nonsensical and frustrating for new players. I will repeat myself, why not just give everyone the sidegrade out of the box? Just end the farming entirely!
None of the weapons are upgrades, so who cares if you get them for free? Certainly the idling system has destroyed any relation to getting people to actually play because they want to get the unlocks, now they just connect to an idle server.
