Spawn camping
Spawn camping
Ok, I know lot of people have diferent opinions, and I feel is good to share 'em.
Gravelpit
Badwater
other similar maps
If the enemy leaves their spawn and on the first door you place stikies its spawn camping, lik for example offense dustbowl stage 3.
however, is it spawn camping if you place stikies where the door permanently stays open after set up time, like on gravelpit?
what do you gals/guys think?

Re: Spawn camping
No it is not. sticky all you want

Re: Spawn camping
If they have two layers of exits (a spawn door behind a gate that opens for example), it's pretty much safe to guard the outer door. Some poorly built customs can be an exception, though...

I look at it this way, is there an alternate way out of the spawn area?
For instance, the defending spawn area on the 3rd section of dustbowl. There is 2 1/2 (since there are 2 doors on the one side) exits that I do not see as spawn camping, however holding them back at the main room is camping since there is no other way out and no real way to build an uber in realist time to escape.
I also go by the concept of if you have to ask if they can get out of there, you're probably spawn camping. They key here is can they get out, not is it a spawn door. Granted this may not make sense to anyone but me

Re: Spawn camping
On AD maps defense trying to hold the gates is OK, since they are defending their territory. Attackers holding defense at defense's spawn is not ok, because that is defending territory and they are supposed to be attacking.
My 2 cents.
On tug of war and ctf-style maps neither side should be doing it, but defense should be doing it on attack/defend maps.

Re: Spawn camping
I've been accused of spawn camping when I go to destroy teleporter entrances and someone steps out of spawn at that moment. Killing someone in the wrong place at the wrong time just happens, it's when you sit there and do it that there is a problem.

I would agree with that. Just don't sit there. Stick and move, stick and move.

Great example is first level on Gold Rush.
As a pyro, I will often strive to take that side tunnel and get behind the enemy. I will often pause there outside the spawn to destroy teleporters. I loiter a little to ignite some respawners and drive them back to the lockers, then move on.
I feel it's 'spawn camping' if you are killing multiple enemies and not moving on. I will loiter for maybe 3-5 seconds and then move on to get the actual guys in the field.
Yeah, that only counts if it's the actual door outside the 'tile room' where the lockers are.

Re: Spawn camping
Say you're chasing an enemy and been gunning them down your last few rounds and they run into spawn to heal. Is it ok to shoot them and possibly kill them once they step inside spawn before the door closes? I do that all the time.
Re: Spawn camping
I've been accused of spawn camping on Warpath as a Scout when the enemy spawns above the tunnel. I go to take out their teleporters and distract them to get their attention away from the middle point. It works but some people think I'm spawn camping.

That isn't spawn camping, that's just you being extremely irritating. Which is the point of the class, I would say.

See, I don't have a problem with this, because you are chasing someone back to spawn, not waiting for them to come out a blind door.

This kind of behavior, on the other hand, usually results in a serious loss of respect for the person doing it and as often as not will cause me to join the other team regardless of any other factors.I loiter a little to ignite some respawners and drive them back to the lockers, then move on.

I find spawn camping only ok on A/D maps. In the definition of spawn camping: waiting for the enemy to spawn and the shoot at them at that instant. I find the only exception to this dustbowl lvl 2/3. maybe because it rarely happens like it does on lvl 1.
Most of the people that dont play A/D maps all the time consider killing someone as they come out of spawn, even if passing by, like on 2fort, spawn camping, even when its not.
