[PSA] The TF2 spreadsheet may not be legitimate

Post by Jesus_Faction » Fri Aug 24, 2012 9:33 am

This is the same thing that happened with the old spreadsheet. The admins of it manipulated it for their own gain.

http://backpack.tf seems like a nice site, thoough

backpack.tf seems just as corruptable.

Any such system is so corruptible, markets need transparency and liquidity to function properly. TF2 item trading has neither.
If Valve wants to have a functioning market (and I'm not sure they *really* do want one), then stuff like this is inevitable.

I saw this coming, some of the prices of the items seem a little too high for trading for metal/keyes.

At least that site is done by voting rather than just a few guys setting whatever they like

But, as pointed out in the reddit, a few people could easily conspire to influence the voting, it would be a touch harder but the same possibility of manipulation is there.

This is the same as InTrade's political markets only easier - if there aren't enough transactions occurring it's easy for someone to manipulate the market.
