1.9 should be out on February 29th !!!
http://www.minecraftforum.net/news/6031 ... or-testing
"The pre-release is here! Possibly one of the most extensive updates in the game's history, 1.9 comes not only with a huge list of features, but a huge number of total bugfixes over the course of its development. Are you ready to see it in all its glory?
The full release of 1.9 is expected to happen on Thursday, February 25th, 2016."
Well its about damned time ! I have no idea if a reset will bring life to TV5 or not, lets hope that it does.
If the update comes out on the 25th should we plan to update the server the following day just to allow 24 hours for glitches to be worked out?

Re: 1.9 should be out on February 25th !!!
My personal suggestion (JD and other active players, thoughts?) would be to give it 24 hours to make sure it's stable and working correctly, and do the reset for us Friday evening, since many people will be freeing up for the weekend and we can make an event of it.
Is there a way to put an MOTD up on the server telling folks the reset is coming, and to ask folks to come here to make suggestions, in case they don't check the forums often?

I'm all for a reset. It would be nice to get back on the ground floor of a server life cycle again. Would it be possible to do Large Biomes this time?

Re: 1.9 should be out on February 25th !!!
We had large biomes I think on the server before this one and it was a real challenge at times to find a biome you like. There were huge endless deserts, huge thick endless forests, huge oceans and huge winter biomes that were a PITA.
But we will take it under consideration and perhaps do a vote on it too.
I think going into this server we should also think about when we plan for the next reset. We had talked about resets every 6 months but then we dragged things out waiting for 1.9, who knows when the next massive update will come so we should also have a vote/discussion on when to reset.
I think the major goal with more frequent resets will be to keep people more interested and active on the server. When we reset last April we were very active for about a month, then we had the hardcore players sticking around, then after June of last year things got fairly quiet and pretty much stayed that way until now.

As much as I hate frequent resets I admit that is simply because I'm a slow builder these days.
As long as we stick to a pretty regular schedule so people know what to expect I could see 6 months working well.

Re: 1.9 should be out on February 25th !!!
I wonder if we couldn't perhaps experiment with a regular cycle of having a vanilla environment for a few months after a reset and then perhaps experimenting with a small number of community-selected mods being applied to the same map before the next reset cycle?
Kind of like
* (Month 0) Feb 2016: Reset
* (Month 3) May 2016: Vote on 3 mods people would like to experiment with.
* (Month 4) Jun 2016: Implement Mod A.
* (Month 5) Jul 2016: Implement Mod B.
* (Month 6) Aug 2016: Implement Mod C.
* (Month 7) Sep 2016: Reset

A reminder, you can play the pre-release now. Edit your launcher profile to allow snapshots and for "use version:" select "Use Latest Version".
Um, killing overworld mobs is much harder.

UPDATE: Minecraft 1.9 Pre-Release 2 is now available.
It is time to stop waiting and start playing. A pre-release of Minecraft 1.9 is now available. We are very excited to enter the final stage before the new version is released.
First the answer to the most asked question: We are currently planning to release the final version of Minecraft 1.9 next week, on Thursday, 25th of February 2016. (UPDATE: the release date was moved to Monday, 29th of February 2016)
And now to the usual release notes. Once we release the final Minecraft 1.9 update, we will also provide a complete list of changes between Minecraft 1.8 and Minecraft 1.9.
Bugs fixed in 1.9-pre2:
[Bug MC-35127] - Wrong NBT TAG Type for fallTime in FallingSand Entities
[Bug MC-35714] - Sounds loop/restart when exiting screens
[Bug MC-89928] - Portals not placing the player at correct coordinates
[Bug MC-90101] - Mob Spawner is overwriting (ignoring?) Pos[x,y,z] data of entity
[Bug MC-91290] - Skeletons with no AI spawning naturally
[Bug MC-95538] - /playsound command doesn’t work with selectors not resolving to exactly one entity
Notable changes:
Bugs fixed
Increased durability of shields
Some crystals in the end are protected by cages again
Added 34.7% more hype for Minecraft 1.9
Bugs fixed:
[Bug MC-96863] - Marker ArmorStand Should Not Have Passenger Offset
[Bug MC-97217] - Weird placement of player while riding an entity after swimming with elytra
[Bug MC-97235] - Resource pack in minecraft world save file not working
[Bug MC-97251] - Rail Duplication Glitch
Please report any and all bugs you find in Minecraft to bugs.mojang.com. If nobody reports a bug, we can’t fix it!
To get snapshots (or, in this case, the pre-release), open your launcher and press the “New Profile” button. Call it “snapshots” and check the box saying “Enable experimental development snapshots” and save. To switch to the normal version, you can select it in the dropdown at the bottom left corner of the launcher. Back up your world first or run the game on in a different folder (See the “new profile” dialog).
Snapshots can corrupt your world, please backup and/or run them in a different folder from your main worlds.
