Re: Big terrain changes coming to MC
After the last reset we had planned on only doing it once per year, around Christmas. This would give everyone ample notice that it was upcoming and there wouldn't be any surprises.
Is there any sort of estimate on when 1.7 will be released?

Well either way, I think making X-mas a minimum reset deadline should help folks out knowing when the "end of the world" is.

Re: Big terrain changes coming to MC
I think it'll be a while before the update hits anyways, this update looks big and probably require quite a bit of testing before hitting regular updates, like November.
Though I wonder if restarting the server a month early would really make a difference though. However as I'm not really on the regular minecraft server that much, so I'm not in a position to talk. Though I think putting a poll up around the time the update hits would be a good idea. I mean you always put the files up in the end anyways, so it's not like everything is gone for good.

Oh and when we start the new map I wanted to try some designs for a nether hub and enderman farm...if thats ok for anyone who wanted to do those projects
And if your gonna build a base in the new world what kind of biomes would you put yours in??

Re: Big terrain changes coming to MC
I'm personally after the red forest or mega-taiga forest. However it's quite a rare biome it appears and I'm actually looking to settle next to someone as I heard it's a completely different experience.
Either way I hope in general we design the server a bit more horse friendlier as I stated earlier but horses will probably be more important this time around.

Indeed it is a different experience when I had found out that willie/joker had settled next to me in the current vanilla world

Re: Big terrain changes coming to MC
The Minecraft Wiki has a lot of information on the new biomes and terrain features. Here's a list of all of the (known) upcoming biomes, and here is the version history for the snapshots, which includes a very very very very long list of things that were added in 13w36a, which is where most of the new biomes were first implemented.
There are apparently going to be "rare" biomes in the game. They're variants of standard biomes which will appear far less frequently and usually have distinguishing features, such as mesa biomes that look like Bryce Canyon with lots of tall thin structures; Cold Taiga, which is snowy all over like the classic Taiga (standard Taiga will now be snow-less except above the snow line); mountainous versions of all biomes; and Plains where sunflowers will spawn in abundance (currently the only known place where sunflowers can be acquired outside of Creative mode). Of note is the new Savanna biome (which takes after its namesake in Africa, with brown grass and curvy trees), whose mountainous variants include mountains which can reach the Y=256 height limit even outside of the new "AMPLIFIED" world type.
With the rare biomes, we'll soon be able to visit such friendly-looking places as this:
I want this thing to drop already ... there's too much cool stuff to keep track of it all! And there just keeps being more!

I also think we should create a few redstone devices at spawn this time like:BlackHawk_989 wrote:Oh and when we start the new map I wanted to try some designs for a nether hub and enderman farm...if thats ok for anyone who wanted to do those projects

may take a while for the item sorter though.
Re: Big terrain changes coming to MC
So patch 1.6 and here are the patch notes:
This update fixes world generation bugs that would appear in 1.7. It is recommended that you use this version and load up important areas of your world before heading into Minecraft 1.7.
I'm going to take a wild guess and say 1.7 is right around the corner. How do we feel about restarting the server a little bit early for the update once it hits?
