help, monitor problem
for some reason when i started up my comp today, the corners of my screen seem to be a smaller resolution than the middle. almost like my desktop is getting wrapped around. i can take an icon from the middle of the desktop, and as i drag it towards the edge of the screen it slowly shrinks! i run ubuntu, but i dont think its an OS problem. i think its either my monitor slowly dying, or my videocard drivers. anyone ever have this happen before?

If it is a CRT then remove the big magnet that is used to hang the sexy pic of [you]
I dont know for sure, as I have never run across the issue but it sounds like the monitor more than the card. Have you tried different resolutions?

Most of the time when the screen starts changing shape, the internal power supply
is going. Usually the capacitors. Degaussing usually always takes place each time you
turn on the CRT (That's the crinkling noise you hear when you turn it on) and
again, that's controlled by the power supply. Sometimes, the video card can cause it,
but mostly the crt is going bad. Like SD said, swapping it out with another will tell you immediately.

Defiantly sounds like a monitor problem...
If it is really bugging you, you can shrink the image on your monitor, with the buttons on your monitor, so that it is not near the edge.. at least until you can get a new monitor... You should take a look at the LCD's on the market today.. some good ones are pretty cheap.

yeah.. that size changing thing is fun, but one of my two monitors recently has liked to make this high squealing sound which goes away when i bang the side of the screen. Tthe monitor is nice aside from that every once in a while and it was free anyways for designing a stamp for a friend. so even if mine does go i haven't lost out on anything
