I have a three-year-old ATI Radeon HD 4870 512 MB and it handles everything I play.

And since everyone else is doing it:

That there is likely the source of your ping spikes, disconnects, and other problems playing - if that connection flutters at all, it may well be unable to handle what's needed for gaming.
Yes it is, but recently its just instant lag explosions. I will be switching soon but I don't want to live off cup o' noodles at the moment. One day once I graduate from Uni I will be able to have food and a good connection. :D

Thanks everyone for your input - I ended up going with the GTX 570 just to future-proof a little.

Does anyone here cap framerate? I'm considering giving it a try after reading this thread:

Nvidia's new 300 series drivers cap the framerate dynamically (switch v-sync on/off optimally).

Interesting - Can you link some more info to this? Specifically, anything about this pertaining to tf2. :)

This provides a nice description of how adaptive VSync works although it's not TF2 specific: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2012/04/ ... ogy_review
