Trying to get TV sound through stereo receiver

Post by Chaka of the Pakuni » Sun Feb 02, 2014 1:15 pm

I have a Samsung UN40EH6000F TV. Here's a link: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owner ... EH6000FXZA

I also have a Sony STR-DA1000ES receiver. Here's a link: http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-hom ... #/howtoTab

Here's a link to the receiver manual: https://docs.sony.com/release/STRDA1000ESrevision.pdf

I'd like to have the sound for the TV come out the speakers on the receiver. I bought the red and white jacks and hooked them up to the audio out on the TV, and then hooked them up to the TV/SAT audio in on the receiver. I turn on the TV and receiver, set the receiver to TV/SAT, but the TV sound does not come out the stereo speakers.

In the TV settings I can set the sound to 'external speaker', but still no luck.

Anyone know how I can get the TV sound to come out through the receiver?

Thanks for any help.

what kind of feed is attached to the tv for audio in?
are you hooking hdmi up from something, or optical/digital coax?
a lot of tvs wont convert from digital (any of those types of connections will carry digital audio) to analog (red and white rcas are analog). if your source is digital, then you'll have to feed your audio through your receiver (assuming it has digital in) and then out to the tv.

Umm, the TV is hooked up to the cable box with an HDMI cable. Does that mean I can't use the red and white RCA plugs?

In the link I posted to the receiver manual you can see all the connections it has on the back.

So since it's digital, I need to go from the cable box to the receiver to the TV?

Sorry, I'm a newb to this stuff...

If you use either Dish or DirecTv. The audio out from the receiver should be hooked to your sound system.

Problem was solved with a digital optical audio cable (from TV to receiver).

Thanks all.
