I was planning on waiting until after The Ville Cup finished before posting, but I think I'd go crazy, plus I don't want people to get antsy due to silence. As a result, here it is - the announcement!
The Ville's ESPN Fantasy Football League for 2014 is up again! I've reactivated our league from last year, so it has previous stats, but it's a blank slate as far as who's in and all that. If you are interested in participating in the league, please A) Post here, and B) Send me a PM with the email address you use or would like to use.
Information
Rules Format: We're using standard ESPN rules, with no modifications.
Draft Settings: There will be a live snake draft held. The draft is not yet officially scheduled, but will be targeted for the weekend of August 29th-31st, after the final preseason game. We'll sort the exact time and date out together to make sure everybody can be there - presence at the draft as critical as participation throughout the season!
League Size: I currently have it set for 10 players, which is default. If, like last year, we have enough interest early enough to warrant expanding to 12, I'm willing to do that. We won't go above 12 - that spreads it too thin.
FAQ
What about alternate settings (PPR, IDP, 2QB, etc)? The main league is standard settings, because that is what the majority of the FFL-playing public understands and enjoys. It is well-balanced, comparable across the vast majority of ESPN leagues, and just plain works. If we have enough people to start a second Ville league using PPR or other alternate settings, I'd be happy to participate, or even lead it. I want to fill this league first though, before working to fill another.
How about making it a money league? No thanks. The Ville is about fun and friends, not profit. Most of us aren't serious enough about FFL to gamble on it. ESPN does have a number of prize-eligible leagues available, however, and you can definitely find one there to join. Heck, if you think you found a good one and it needs members, feel free to ask others if they're interested - there may be some takers. It just won't be our league here.
Why draft after the pre-season? There is nothing that kills participation faster than having people draft, and then have their star players knocked out before the first game is played. It isn't fun, it isn't fair, and it hurts the league. Some folks like an element of "danger" in their draft, but we're not all so hardcore.
