If you are going to bring up Mel Brooks, don't forget that History of the World, Part I was also an eighties film.
Yeah I'm a Mel Brooks fan.

Mel Brooks = Genius! What movie wasn't great with him as director/actor?

Dracula Dead and Loving it.
Good, but not Great, at least not by Mel Brooks standards.
I could probably also say The 12 Chairs (obscure even among Brooks fans; I only know it because it came with a big collector's set), but that one is only a bit "meh" for a Brooks film because it's Rated G.

Re: I'd like to know everybody's favorite 80's movie
I grew up in the 80's. That was a special time for me
1. The Thing
2. They Live
3. Pumpkinhead
4. A Christmas Story
5. Caddyshack
6. National Lampoons Vacation
7. Christmas Vacation
8. Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
9. Star Wars: Return of the Jedi
10. Weird Science
11. Real Genius
12. Airplane
13. Airplane II
14. Top Secret
15. The Goonies
16. Heartbreak Ridge
17. Any Which Way But Loose
18. Hamburger: The Motion Picture
19. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
20. Willow (I think that was 1989...might have been 1990 though).
2 of the all time worst movies ever made (in my opinion, anyway) were put out in the 80's. Hawk the Slayer and The Boogens. I loved both of them as a kid, but watching them now....man...

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension
Seriously....it had so many people in it before they were famous
Peter Weller, John Lithgow, Ellen Barkin, Jeff Goldblum, Christopher Lloyd.....
It's not a great film but for some reason I get a kick out it.
Otherwise Princess Bride is my favorite movie of all time and it was released in the 80's...but I don't think of it as a 80's film.
