CS-DOD
So I've started a new plugin!
I'm out of rational ideas for L4DoD, for now, so i need a new project to keep me active.
Sometimes, ideas in one project can lead to ideas in another. Like the way TF2 Skeet led to L4DoD!
This one is called CS-DOD. I've had this in the back of my mind for a while now where DoDS is played in the style of CS:S....when you die you don't respawn, you get money for kills with which you can buy new weapons, and objectives are simple.
Why...I hear you ask? Well, first of all, it would be fun to play a CSS game with DoDS weapons, secondly, it hasn't been done before and thirdly, I get bored easily and I need a project to keep me out of mischief.
So far, the basic plugin has been fleshed out.
All the maps are detonation ones (until i figure out how to do hostages), with predetermined bomb sites which the Axis (the terrorists) have to blow up and the Allies (the counter terrorists) have to defuse, but using DoDS TNT!
There is a timer and rounds can also be won by wiping out the other team.
One player on Axis gets the TNT and if he dies, he drops it or he can throw it to someone else.
At the start of each round, the player gets a menu (DoDS can't do CS weapon menus) from which they can buy stuff.
I still have to figure out how to add bomb sites to the mini map so people know where the bombs targets are.
I usually write plugins by myself, but this time I have a Subversion server setup and have enlisted the help of a great programmer called Andersso, who writes great highly optimized code. I figured it would be fun to get two minds working together and besides Subversion is a really neat tool that I've been meaning to play with for a while. (For those that have no idea what SVN is, it allows multiple coders to work on the same project and highlights their changes to code as they work on a project.)
So, if anyone is interested, I'd like to organize a test night, playing CS-DOD!
I know CS is not this community's cup of tea but you guys are some of the best testers around!
Let me know if you'd like to give it a go!

Re: CS-DOD
Sounds like a great idea. I believe DoDS is installed for me, so I can beta test.

Re: CS-DOD
I would love to.
Also, on the Project note, is there any chance you'll bring Cube Soccer back up? Maybe keep it proprietary this time so a bunch of fools don't go messing with your work? I'd love to see us able to play that again - it was super fun.

With Cube Soccer, I was wondering if Highlander mode would make the game interesting

yes and yes?
Eater of Potatoes, since 2008.
I am driven by two main philosophies: know more today about the world than I knew yesterday and lessen the suffering of others. You'd be surprised how far that gets you.

You'd have fighting amongst players over who gets to play what. I guarantee it.Dog wrote:With Cube Soccer, I was wondering if Highlander mode would make the game interesting

Re: CS-DOD
I would be happy to help you test out a new CS-DOD game Dog! If you still need people, let me know when and where and I'll be there. So, no zombies in this one eh? I guess you can't have everything! But there's still gonna be an Emo right???? (hehe)
