Re: Second Sunday Counter-Strike: Source
Gun Game is a CS:S mod that works as follows:
-Usually played on an "orange map" or similar large arena map without too much cosmetic detail, but with lots of places to move around and take cover.
-Everybody starts with the same, weak pistol (the Glock) - there is no purchasing of guns.
-Every time you get a kill, your gun changes to the next higher gun.
-The guns go through every weapon on both teams
-Once you've gotten a kill with the highest gun, the para (machine gun) you have to get a kill with a grenade
-Once you've gotten a kill with a nade, you need to get a kill with a knife
-First person to get a knife kill wins.
Like CS:S in general, it suffers from the fact that the good get better weapons, and the worst are stuck with crap weapons. There are several sticking points, however, the slow most folks down, and the grenade and knife kill requirement right at the end, when most other folks will have high-powered long guns, usually means there's a tight finish between at least 3 or 4 people. It's a pretty fun mod.

Re: Second Sunday Counter-Strike: Source
It's a skill ladder subgame of Counter-Strike. Everyone starts with the same weapon. As players score kills, their old weapon is replaced with a different one. Usually it goes something like M249-AWM-SG552-AUG-etc-etc-etc-SMGs-pistols-grenades-knife. It is possible to go up more than one level per round. The winner is the first person to score a kill with the final weapon.
There's no purchasing required.
Usually it's played on small purpose-built maps (which could be a problem, but then again most of the Gun Game maps are less than 10 MB each). Probably 90% of the GG maps resemble fy_iceworld (or as I famously described it, "A box with four smaller boxes inside it."), though there's variation.

Gun game is no fun for beginners like me, I get stuck at pistol the entire time while everyone else is running around with assault rifles.

The version that I used to play was technically Reverse Gungame, so you worked your way up to pistols. It seemed to be more even that way.

Not that it would matter!
The one thing I do like about GG is, the respawning seems to take less time with the smaller maps.

This is why reverse Gun Game is far superior. It's almost impossible to get left behind if you're still hauling an M249 and everyone else has pea-shootersl3eeron wrote:Gun game is no fun for beginners like me, I get stuck at pistol the entire time while everyone else is running around with assault rifles.

Hehe, and in both versions, I remember half the team would end up stuck on scouts for the longest time

The worst part about Scout is that you need to level up as soon as possible after the Scout, or some hoser with a knife will knock you back to Scout.

Sorry I couldn't make it last time. I didn't have the game then.
But now I do, so if you guys invite me, I'll actually be able to play.

"So what have you been up to, man? Haven't seen you in so long!"
"Ah, you know how it is. Doin' a lot of side projects, some consulting, maybe a little freelance... Those are words that people say when they haven't actually been doing anything, right?"

Re: Second Sunday Counter-Strike: Source
Your gun is almost irrelevant in an average CSS game. If you're good you're gonna end people, if you're not, you're not. Best gun in the game is def the AWP followed by the AK, but if you're good not playing a competitive game, it really doesn't matter that much the gun order.

Re: Second Sunday Counter-Strike: Source
Perhaps, but it gives people a chance to use all the different weapons and find ones they may like for the normal game. The people who are good are good because they know the weapons they excel with, every weapon handles differently. You're comfortable with an AWP or an AK, I find I do my best work with an AUG in my hands.
As for the weapon order, it is most definitely not irrelevant. It is exceedingly hard to get off of low-tier weapons when the people around you simply have stronger ones. If you don't get off pistols before someone on the other team gets a rifle, you're pretty much boned. In reverse, however, it's tough to get left behind regardless of your skill level. Even if you're not the best player in the world you can aim in the general direction of an enemy with an M249 and probably get a kill. It also makes the people work harder for their win, since they're up against people with better weapons.
