shooting thru walls

ok, so i was playing on tv3 a couple of days ago (before steam started to disconnect me every couple of minutes) and someone was shooting and wounding me by shooting thru the wall. the map: avalance. I was axis, running from spawn, jumping off the balcony by the 2nd flag and making my way to the apartments, up the stairs to enter the building, you know, where the middle flag is, sort of between the axis 2nd flag and the middle cap point. anyway, so this guy was shooting me and killing one of my team mates by standing at the other side of the wall and aiming thru the wall. I get that it's possible to do with an mg, but he wasn't using an mg and he said he wasn't wallhacking, that anyone could shoot thru the wall. now of course this made me...upset...it may be do-able, but it is honorable?
I just got very peeved about it and think it should be frowned upon. Heavens know I was frowning a lot.

At one point the same thing happened on Donner, thankfully not the same guy, because with my temper he would've been kicked by then. Playing allies, going into the wheelhouse. Now you know you have to come around a corner before you see the wheel, this guy was standing behind the wall, aiming at the wall and killing/wounding like that. I said it wasn't allowed and he apologized and stopped...unlike the guy on avalanche who, together with some other players told me that he "have killed a lot of eva, tvr and usv people that way and no one has ever said anything about it" and that he has "played (like that) at theville for years and has never gotten a warning about it"

So...what to do? is he right? Am i just being pms'y or is it "illegal"?? I always thought killing thru doors is ok but walls are off-limits although it happens frequently when you sport an mg.

Please advice.

iu know what ur talking about on ava kate...ppl have done it to me be4...and it's usually some noob that just sits there and camps it the entire map...but thats avoidable...just run all the way down the street and go into the appartments from there side and stab em in the back ...thats what i do anyway

This can be a grey area. IMO just camping a wall and blasting a rifle through it (or any gun) till you get lucky and kill someone is a pretty lame tactic. If thats all a player does for the whole map I might ask him to refrain. I wouldnt call it an exploit tho. The walls (especially on the official stock maps) have a certain thickness. They made the walls skinny enough to shoot through on purpose IMO. But that doesnt mean a guy should "exploit" it. I would leave this one alone.

Best route to go with this one is get a demo, let someone like Frosty be the judge. Meanwhile in game, get some back up from your team to help you take him out.

I would really like to get some input from especially admins...it's one of those gray areas and I prefer black and white. Basically I just want to know what theville's rules are about it. The guy admitted to shooting thru the walls but he claims it's not against theville rules...

You know, like when someone utters profane language on the server, i'm going to go ahead and give him a warning, informing so to speak that it's against our rules...but what about the annoying wall shooters, the warning went out and i got the responses as above...I just don't want to overstep boundaries here or cause problems, so....

In this situation, its better err on the player's side I guess. Personally Ive never heard of anyone getting the boot for hosing a wall with an mg. Even on Kalt, the allies get up on the wheel and shoot into the axis courtyard through two doors... noone ever warned a guy for that.

Im not saying its a legit thing to do.

shooting through the wall is part of the game. bullets are able to travel through mere walls of a house so thats how they made the game. i shoot through the wall sometimes. its a fun lil game really. u lure some axis on ava then u have a buddy behind the wall shoot em. i do it when i get bored.

but yeah i dont think it's an exploit what so ever.

Shooting through walls has been a part of DoD from the beginning, it's been made less prevalent as new maps come out. I can't tell you how many times I have been shot at through walls. As others stated you just have to change up the game plan a bit when someone is doing this camping thing. I have shot through walls myself after finding out you could, but never camped a wall that’s just lame. There is not much we can do about either, except to maybe ask them to stop the camping, even though that is allowed as well.

There is one thing that does concern me when someone is doing this and that’s having a wall hack, if you suspect something of that nature please get a demo and submit it to the admins.

Thanks for the concern Kate I know it can be frustrating but it is part of the game.

thanks everyone for the replies...it's clearer now...i know mg's could do it, just wasn't sure if it...well, anyway, I'm glad it's cleared up now. I get it...it's annoying but not "illegal" unless the player uses a wallhack...ok, back to the game

Well I dont usually shoot though walls alot of the time I see ppl guns sticking though the wall but the other player doesnt notice and thinks there wall hacking but its not easy to determine if its a wall hack or good player

for all those that havent found out yet...i broke into shuyas place and stole his comp...it had a plethera of hacks in it...now im just unstoppable!!!

Unfortunately it’s one of the many flaws in 1.3. You’re never going to stop people from shooting though walls. It’s no different than shooting the ceiling with a zook and killing everyone in the room or people going rambo with an MG. Just learn to play around it or play source.

Would just like to say that when i first started playing on the ville i was almost banned for shoting through the wall of the house on kalt to the other 1 and killing every1 in the windows ...am i allowed to do that again?
