Design feedback?

I've been asked to whip up a fresh design for a new DoD website. Usually I sort-of lay it out in photoshop or fireworks, then slice and code. Here's the flattened photoshop image. What do you think?

I love the weak sauce logo tez, I thought it was just plain cool until I moused over it, very nice! And what language is that guy blabbering about in? It looks like Latin >.>

ps the tabs at the top don't work for me, or are you just not that far into the coding yet?

A few design things I would change would be making all of the tables flush on the home page and subsequent pages, your left column is a bit higher than the far right. Maybe lower the weak sauce image and imbed a link to home in it. Also, make the log in box flush with the left column at the very bottom or move it somewhere else.

On the weak sauce image it self, you need to move it up about 1 pixel to make the white line in the image flush with the line on the page

I still need to finish the tabs. I'm going to change them to flash then make a carousel where "Run Away!" graphic is, to show the motd and other stuff depending on the web analytics feedback. I agree, that image is a little too wide by a few pixels on the left.

I tried lining up the table heights and it looked a little boring. Asymmetric looked better for some reason.

Yup, the logo is off. When I set the background jpg to a higher compression setting, it shifted everything down a pixel, also darkened it too much. Need to make it clickable to home.

Also, I like e107 CMS, but it has this setting:

... Macromedia Fireworks says PNG-24s can't be transparent. Weird. Anyone have photoshop? try to make this an alpha transparent PNG24:

If I knew how to do that in CS2 I'd give it a shot, unfortunately I've only used it to toy around with things like sigs =/
