Like most adults, I enjoy swearing when I am upset, happy, or even non de.script. Swearing is a harmless way to express emotion. As many of us know, swearing is currently not allowed in any form on TheVille servers. It has been deemed harmful to young players who may be playing. It is my opinion that we should be allowed to swear, even if some restrictions may be applied.

I'm going to start with the most basic of arguments for this. The fact of the matter is, this is a bloody, gory game, and it seems totally backwards and bizarre to get mad at people for swearing in a game when the objective of said game is to liquefy your enemies in to dripping, messy piles splattered among the walls.

This game is rated Mature for a reason. You should be one of two things if you are playing TF2: A 17+ adult (or near adult if you're 17) or someone who is younger than 17, and among the potentially "harmed" by foul language who bought the aforementioned described game. If you are the former, congratulations! If you are playing this game, you have undoubtedly heard every single curse word our wonderful language can offer. If you are the latter, then that means one of two things. You are a delinquent or your parents don't care about the game's gratuitous violence. If you are the former. Congratulations! You have undoubtedly heard every curse word our wonderful language has to offer, and have likely used them as well. If you are the latter, then its apparent that if the parents are uncaring of violence, let alone swearing. I have created a simple flowchart that illustrates my previous points.



If for some reason this does not convince the administrators to lift this rather unusual policy, perhaps we can compromise, and lift the policy at late server hours when it is very likely only adults are playing. If a young player is up late, chances are they don't care about language either.

Let's make this happen people.

We can compromise and when you want to swear, just don't hold down the mic button? I swear a bunch, In fact there was probably a string earlier where i dropped at least one or two f-bombs after each death earlier that last a good 10 minutes or so.

Most minor swears won't get too much action. If its in the game or you can hear it on TV it is for the most part overlooked UNLESS the words are being used in a disrespectful way or directly at another player. racist or bigoted comments are zero tolerance.

For the most part ( and i speak only for myself) late night i will be a little more relaxed about it. But just because its 2 am est. its only 11pm pst and for a summer night really isn't so late for some kids. The exception to this comes with some of the previous problems i posted. Direct usage towards someone else and the racist/bigoted comments.


Its all boils down to a respect. 1) towards your fellow players and 2) for the people that run these privately owned servers and created the rules. Its not a situation of " omg he said a bad word" its about a nice clean, respectful game.

For every person that has complained because they can't say a certain word, we have had many people praise the same environment because they don't have to worry about the mindless crap that can pour out of some peoples mouths, or that they feel ok letting their kids play around on here for a few.

Just because you've heard foul language before doesn't mean that you want to listen to it while trying to play a game. It detracts from the experience for others playing with you. If you need to swear, go ahead, but let go of the voice chat button.

Maturity has nothing to do with age or time of day. A "mature" person is somebody who understands there are times and places where certain things are socially acceptable, and times when they are not. You can have a mature 12 year old, or an immature 40 year old.

The community of The Ville is a place where swearing is not socially acceptable, and players of any age and any social persuasion are welcome to play, at any time of night or day. It has been this way for 10 years, and will likely continue this way until the day we all grow old and die.

If you "enjoy" swearing as you say, fine, swear away. Just DO NOT key your mic or type it out. It's perfectly simple NOT to take the extra step of sharing your particular vocabulary with others. If you are indeed a "mature" player, this should not be a difficult thing to manage.

I agree that yes to a degree if someone is spewing it it is irritating, but my brother was once banned for a week for cursing like 2 or 3 times (he's in the military so it just comes to him)

i like to follow the "star trek" rule, which is "Dammit Jim, I'm a doctor!" is about as foul as you can get i understand your point, and technically the ESRB doesn't rate online play anyway, but we would like to keep the Ville servers as far away from CSS pubs as possible.

Most of the kids playing probably are forced to play with sillygibs, I actually play with it anyways, it's more fun, sillygibs makes it so that when someone explodes when it would usually have bloody body parts it has a bunch of gears and tires and other random objects and can be activated by typing -sillygibs in set launch options.

I think the odd curse word should be forgiven. But on the second offense you should get a warning. On the third, a slap or a kick. After that, if your still cussin' your asking for a ban.

On a side note, I have heard way too many European children(very young) screaming curse words every 2 seconds. What's up with that? It's like they are the most vulgar kids in the world or something. You can find them in every Source Mod.

The Ville has been around for 10 years playing all kinds of M rated war type games. That argument will never win here. Much like Gizanked, I swear from time to time, but I do it without pressing my mic key.

Also, its not even all about age. I'm 25 and I really could care less about needing to express myself in a manner that needs swearing. The one thing that makes the Ville so great is that it is an oasis in the internet that is not filled with CS type kids just swearing it up.
