Re: What are your thoughts about crits...?
I like the crits. A little randomness helps make the game more exciting and less serious.

I don't necessarily have a problem with crits, but I don't necessarily agree with how they are distributed. From what I hear, you get crits by being able to kill a lot... So the only way to get a lot of crits is to already be killing everyone anyway? It's kind of giving the best players even more of an advantage over the weaker players that they really don't need in my opinion.

It's not a matter of the rich get richer, its a method of rewarding team play (that is not dying and your death being a hindrance to the team). The longer you stay alive and the more aggressive you are, the more chance you get for crits. It's not like flipping a switch that once you kill 3 enemies in a row all your remaining shots are crits, but to me, that kind of power (upgrade, if you will) is all the motivation I need to play well and stay alive.
It's also not meant to create a wider divide between two teams. If a team is stacked to one side, a slight increase in crit percentages isn't going to matter a whole lot. But think of it this way. Suppose you're on that weaker team but get a bunch of kills. Now you could potentially become the teams hero and crit your way back from defeat. Alternatively, in a stalemate situation, a powerful player critting it up could cause the necessary break in balance to allow a team to proceed.
They're a good part of the game. Leave them alone!
And I voted the wrong option too. It's very oddly worded!

Ok, so it'd based on the longer you stay alive and all of that too? See, the way it was explained to me was that the more people you kill (no matter how much you die) you will be able to get more crits.
And sometimes it is like flipping a switch... One night, a single soldier killed me 4 times in a row because he shot a crit every single time (sometimes it was his second crit in a row that killed me out of those four), and this was all in a span of a few minutes.
And I didn't say that I didn't like crits. I usually don't have a problem with them.

Here's the TF2 wiki explaination of criticals
that gets factored in while some randomizing algorithm based on a set % chance adds to your chances of crits. That way every once n a while even the bottom of the scoreboard gets a crit...
The quote also kinda explains the demo/solly's massive amounts of crits. When you kill two or more people at once it increases your chance from 5% to 20%. Since the demo/solly's weapons have spalsh dmg, they are more likely to kill more than one person at a time. Combine that with the huge number of spam.... viola.... crit city

....so anything that helps you move up the scoreboard. Staying alive while others die... killing people, capping, blocking, assistsA critical hit or crit is a shot that does extra damage, glows your respective team color, and has distinctive sounds when fired and received. When you hit a player with a critical, the words "critical hit!!!" appear over the target's head in green letters (see image).
Sniper headshots are critical hits. The spy's butterfly knife does not have normal critical hits, but instead has backstab (which might be considered a critical hit). Note that a shot is critical when it was fired, so it is possible to miss. Automatic weapons such as the minigun and the flamethrower have short periods where every shot is critical.
Aside from headshots and backstabs, critical hits are awarded based on random chance and increased by your performance in the game. Testing done by Redcomet and posted on the Steam Users Forums indicates that the critical hit chance is improved solely by killing two or more players in rapid succession, such as a double kill with a soldier's rocket. When this happens for a soldier using rockets, the default chance to crit (5%) is increased by roughly four times (to 20%) temporarily. The duration of this increase appears to vary depending on the weapon; for a demoman using grenades, it can last up to about 20 seconds. This "super-crit" period can be extended by continued killing.
Critical hits, including headshots, deal three times more damage than regular hits. [1]
During humiliation every attack made by the winning side is a Critical Hit, including swipes with the butterfly knife.

Re: What are your thoughts about crits...?
Another reason that people think that Soldiers get more crits is that the glowing rocket is very easy to spot. I have become quite good at noticing the Heavy's shots when he is in crit mode though I still can't tell when a Pyro is in Crit mode.

Yeah, the Pyro is a little weird. Sometimes it looks like a crit when it isn't and vice versa.

Love the crits! It adds to the overall feel. It's a cartoony, superheroish game where you can do crazy things. Crits remind me of the fistfights in the old Batman show. Bam! Zap! Ka-pow!
