Aliases - should we be honored or worried??

Post by Rommel » Wed Jan 16, 2008 9:43 am

Should we be honored or worried that some sphinkter likes to change his in-game name to be those of fellow Ville villuns?? 185 name changes. Check out how many aliases he has:

This has actually caught my attention once too.... however, if you look at the steam address you'll notice it has ID_LAN. If you look this up it has something to do with those people and their connection to the server.

Basically it is a server things and not anyone being a "sphinkter" :P

So the fact that when i search player stats for Stevo I see two Stevo's (one canadian, one US) and it is because of an ID_LAN and the people's connections to the server?

Seems more logical that this guy just likes to change his name to other people he sees in game. *smirk*

It comes from the logs and is generated by HLStatsX.
It's a LAN ID. It doesn't actually mean anything.
I'll try and look through the Perl daemon tonight and see if I can kill it...

If it was really Stevo the #1 action would be axe to the face.

The hypnotoad is responsible. Nothing happens without, at least, a nod from the hypnotoad.

Yeah that isn't one person, that's just the logs registering people's SteamID's as STEAM_ID_LAN. You can probably just set it to hidden in the database.

It's not a real person.
It's created by the logs..

BTW, that would be impersonation, not aliasing...

admin impersonation will result in immediate permanent ban
