Scripts are not hacks and have been part of the game from day 1. They do allow for some form of automation and they are useful for people like spies or engies where there are loads of commands and options.
However, having said that, this cvar simply disables the wait command....not the ..scripts. If your ..script is benign and doesn't involve the use of the wait command, it will still work.
As for crashing clients...we are aware of the issue, JF and hopefully, VALVe will have a fix soon.

To me, anything that gives you an unfair advantage over the other players is a form of a hack.
what if i was a 14 year old who doesnt know didly squat about .scripts?
my point exactly

The wait command is part of the .scripting ability. Its not a hack. There is no .script that automatically makes you a beast killing machine. Can we have it back on now?
Sure, some people don't know how to work with them. Some people also don't know that broken stickies give you ammo, or that a Pyro's air blast can put out a burning teammate. Doesn't knowing those things also give you an unfair advantage?
Its part of the game and enabled by default. I'm not sure what problem we are trying to solve by turning them off.

Scripts are available to everyone. They are not hacks or cheats. They allow you to customize the game to fit you. Some people would rather not click like a mad man, so they use an autofire pistol .script. The person with the .script has no special advantage just because he is using a .script.

To be fair have your pistol on auto-fire means it will more likely than not be shooting faster than a person who does not. Which means it does give the user an advantage. Does it make him invincible no, but there is an advantage.

Just because it might be shooting faster doesnt mean that its more accurate and it certainly wastes more ammo which can be trouble for a scout.

We are currently discussing the issue in the Admins forum.
We had this discussion in late 2007 when TF2 came out. We set the servers to sv_pure 2, meaning no sprays, and many folks were disappointed.
Our aim, at TheVille, is to create a fun, playing, environment for all players with a level playing field.
It is very well known that the players that gravitate here are mature, responsible gamers who are very skilled and want to play other skilled players.
This cvar has been disabled, and we as an Admin group will weigh the pros and cons and decide whether it fits our community.
Remember, only .scripts with the 'wait' command will be affected. All other .scripts will not be.

The only .script I can think of that could be cheap would be one to rocket jump, though it's not that hard a skill to pick up - the crouching spam has been fixed now from the code side by Valve.
I thought the pistols had a very short cooldown that prevented people from abusing it via .scripting but I could be wrong, I always felt I could spam the mouse1 faster thant he gun would fire but that could be misperception on my part.
I guess it's possible more can be/have been written and shared that are also explotative - if that's a big danger then I'll be glad if the admis keep the wait command verboten.
But don't rag on the people that use .scripts, the vast majority are not getting any kind of in-game advantage.
