The Escapist holding a TF2 tourney
First of all, this is one of them competitive tournament deals, but since it's not going to be on Ville servers, it's alright if I relay this information to the community, right? If not, this topic can be deleted.
General information, format, rules, etc.
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tournament/tf2/
Matches are May 27-31 round robin style.
Give me times that you guys would be able to do this. In the registration I need to give them a time when we would be able to play matches. Tell me in EDT (eastern daylight time, -4)
It's going to be a 5v5 tournament with razer mouses as prizes. 5 main members, 2 alternates.
Sign ups are from now until the 11:59pm EST on the 22nd, so please let me know asap!
EDIT: I guess I'll post the full rules here for people that don't want to click the link:
The Layout
This tournament is going to be 5v5 (5 people per team) with 2 different Rounds of gameplay. The First Round will be a Round Robin, where you and your teammates will play against other teams to try and get the best record across multiple maps. Games will be live from May 27th through May 31st. The 8 teams with the best records will then move on to the Second Round and the beginning of the elimination bracket. All match-up times will be referred to in Eastern Daylight Time.
How to Sign-Up
The sign-up form is here. You will see that there are 5 slots available for core team members and then 2 spots available for alternates. The person who enters the information necessary for the team will become the team captain. The team captain will be in direct contact with the tournament moderators for match-up times, issues and awards.
Each team member MUST have a valid Escapist account name and valid Steam ID. In order to participate, please enter your own Escapist account name and the account names of your team members in the form provided. Each team member will be sent a private message to their account asking them to be part of your team. Once your team members agree and each provide their unique Steam ID, they are locked into the team. If they decline, they will be unable to participate as part of your team and must find another. If a main team member declines to join your team, any alternate that has confirmed will move into a main slot automatically.
All users participating in this tournament MUST provide their Steam ID to participate. Failure to do so will invalidate that person prior to the tournament. Any team without 5 team members with valid Steam IDs will be not be eligible to participate.
Everyone has from May 18th to May 22nd at 11:59PM EST to sign up for this tournament. You MUST have 5 people on your team or the team will not be submitted. You DO NOT however need to have alternates if you do not want BUT alternates cannot be added once your team submission has been finalized.
Tournament Rules
Round 1 - On May 26th, we will be dividing all of the teams up into divisions. Each team will have to play X amount of games (dependent on how many teams have signed up but likely no more than 8 match-ups) in 5 days. The winners of each division (those with the best record) will move on to Round 2.
Round 2 - The Second Round will begin in the first week of June, with the day dependent on replay match-ups and potential disputes from Round 1. This will be a bracket round, in which winners will move to the next round and losers go home. The Final Match will be played in a "Best of Three" Round, playing 3 full different match-ups. The team to win 2 full match-ups first will be the Grand Prize Winner. The runner up game for 3rd and 4th place will be one match-up only but will be played during the same week.
Gameplay
Game Type: Control Point
Maps: Control Point (cp_granary, cp_well, cp_badlands, cp_gravelpit)
Critical Hits: OFF
Standard Scoring: First team to win 3 rounds takes the overall WIN for the match-up. Each round will be 20 minutes, changing sides each time. Map will change at round 3 and 5. If the two teams play all 5 rounds and have the same wins and ties at the end, they will both be awarded a TIE for the match-up.
Standings: Each match-up WIN is worth 3 points, and each TIE is worth 1.
Class and Weapon restrictions:
Class Restrictions - 2 of each class except - 1 Engineer, 1 Medic, 1 Demoman
Weapons - Only standard weapons will be allowed
Third party applications that affect game play are not permitted. Teams found using them will be penalized at the administrators' discretion.

Violators of these rules are subject to penalties at the administrators' discretion, which may include player suspension(s) or forfeiture of the match.

Re: The Escapist holding a TF2 tourney
Awesome!
Oh, and btw, if you want to enter, you need to create an account for the escapist website.
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/global/ ... gister.php
Then post your login name here so that I can invite you to the team. I think eventually you'll also need to know your steamID, so make sure you know how to get that. You can do this by following these steps:
1. Launch any Valve multiplayer game.
2. Click Options.
3. Select the Keyboard tab.
4. Click the Advanced button.
5. Check the box labeled Enable Developer Console.
6. Click Apply and then click OK.
7. Join or create a server.
8. From the menu screen, press the tilde ~ key - typically in the upper left hand corner of the keyboard to load the Console.
9. Type status into the console text field and press the Enter key.
10. Your SteamID will be displayed next to your nickname in the console window.
SteamID example: STEAM_0:1:1234567

I'll sign up. Got an escapist account already, TCStitch. I'd say I'd play scout but Thorn is way better than me at that anyhow, so Engy, Soly, Pyro and Medic would all be good options for me. Luckily this is a weekend that I DON'T have stuff planned of late!
you could probably convince me to play if youre serious
the team make up pretty much has to be:
1 medic
1 demo
1 scout
1 soldier
last guy is either scout or soldier
You're crazy. A 5 person team clearly has to consist of 2 spies, a sniper, an engie, and a pyro.

Re: The Escapist holding a TF2 tourney
That's wierd, its usually 6v6. For 5v5 I'd probably go Medic, 2 Sollys, Scout, Demo.
You'll need a solid Solly. Either Jesus or I can do the job (possibly both if you need 2). I'm down for it any time after 6pm CST (preferably later, like 9pm CST)

No KK makes me sad
They could have just said "no scout unlocks allowed" that would have been fine.

Alright, so last time I checked this thread, which was around 5:30pm or so, Thorn and Shimmy were the only ones that responded at that time. Since then I also found a couple more people asking around through steam chat. With more responses to this thread though I think we have too many people.
It's 5 on the main team, 2 as alternates. Right now, players that responded to this thread/I got a hold of through steam chat are:
Thorn
Shimmy
Tyrian
Shifty
Stitch
Jesus_Faction
Novacaine
Including me we have 9 people. Somehow we need to whittle this number down to 7. So here's how it's going to work:
Everyone post their preferred times. What's most important is who will all be able to play at the same time.
Also, Jesus and Nova bring up a good point about classes. I know that what classes are good for tournament settings can be argued, but in general, spies, engies, pyros often fall to the wayside for more solid options of medic, soldier, scout, demo. Hopefully one of your classes will fall under these 4.
If this thread keeps growing we could probably think about entering 2 teams, but for right now I'd like to get us down to 7.
EDIT: I editted the first post bolding the "please tell me what time you can play." If you don't go back up to read that...well, please tell me what time you can play from May 27-31 in EDT!!! (Eastern Digital Time, -4).
I personally can play whenever. I live on the west coast so late is not a bad thing in terms of east coast time. I'm also on summer vacation so I can stay up pretty darn late.

they can't just exclude one classes unlocks. You say no to one, you have to say no to them all
Sure they can! Most competative leagues exclude just the scout unlocks. It's their tournament, they can make whatever wacky rules they want!
