Today is the day. If you had registered both versions of Smash Bros. to Club Nintendo prior to March 31st, you should be seeing the codes to redeem Mewtwo as a playable character in your email. The codes have to be redeemed within the game itself and not through the eShop.
Note that as of right now i'm also getting an error trying to enter Mewtwo's download code in the shop. The error states that Nintendo may not have activated the codes just yet so be patient.
Additional changes.
From Nintendo's official patch notes:
-DLC store added
-Content sharing for Wii U.
--This includes photos, replays, Mii Fighters, and custom stages. Photos and stages will be able to be posted directly to Miiverse
-Six more Omega stages have been given 8-player support (Wii U)
--Delfino Plaza
--Port Town Aero Dive
--Wooly World
--Orbital Gate Assault
--Wii Fit Studio
--Pilotwings
-While not mentioned in the official notes, users are claiming that names remain on the controller ports when you change modes in the Wii U.
As for balance changes. Here's what the Smash sub has found:
-Diddy has been nerfed heavily with knockback and damage reduced on many of his attacks, especially his infamous D-throw > U-air string
-A new option has been added in controller settings to allow you to perform smash attacks by pressing attack and special attack together.
-Sheik's B-air has reduced damage and knockback
-Wii Fit Trainer's Up-Smash hitbox better hits enemies on the ground.
-ROB's Up-throw has reduced launch power. Damage unchanged.
-Mii Brawler's Piston Punch knockback has been corrected so that it can't one-shot light characters at 0%.
-Link's Up-smash does more damage.
--His jab-infinite is gone for real this time.
-Pac-Man's grab has less end lag on a miss.
-Jigglypuff's Rest has more knockback and kills sooner.
More will come up. When Smashboards has a complete changelist i'll be sure to post it.
EDIT:
The current changelog from Smashboards.
Diddy Kong:
Up Air Damage 8% -> 6% [KB reductions?]
Forward Air Damage 12/10% -> 10/8%
Up Throw 10% -> 8%
Down Throw 7% -> 6%
Sheik:
Bair 10% -> 7%
Lucina:
Fair, Dtilt, Fsmash, Second hit Dsmash, uncharged shieldbreaker approx. 0.5% damage increases
Fully charged shieldbreaker approx. 1% damage increase
Mii Swordfighter:
Dtilt 6% -> 8%
Nair 5% -> 8%
Sonic:
Back Throw has less knockback
ROB:
Up Throw has less launch
Kirby:
Down Throw Damage 6 -> 10%
Inhale acts out faster
Ganondorf:
Jab Damage increased by 1% (6-9% -> 7-10%)
Pac-Man:
Grab slightly faster animation
Charizard:
Up Throw 8% -> 11%
Flare Blitz Self Damage 4% -> 5%
Also, someone went datamining in the 3DS files and found some particularly interesting soundbytes. Three victory themes and a potential stage theme.
The first victory theme is the Mother victory with Lucas' name on it. Given that he's confirmed DLC, that's nothing surprising.
The second victory theme is the Fire Emblem victory with Roy's name on it. Could he be coming back?
Possibly the best is the third. The third victory theme is completely new: the stage clear theme from Street Fighter 2 with Ryu's name on it. Furthermore, the possible stage theme is Ryu's theme from Super Street Fighter 2. Is Ryu an upcoming DLC character?

This is hard to be cool and suave while being informative at the same time. Goddamn my coolness.
In my experience, common sense isn't too common.

Multiple sources appear to be confirming this but I'd still take this with a grain of salt until something is officially stated by Nintendo. Any statements will likely be made tommorow morning as Sakurai himself is doing a special Smash Bros. livestream concerning new content. 7:40 AM PST, 9:40 AM VST. http://e3.nintendo.com/
Patch 1.0.8 appears to have been released early in Japan. This is the patch that adds our Brawl-returnee Lucas to the roster. Supposedly the Miiverse stage is also finally getting released (they must have finally found some way to moderate the content). Some people have already found a lot more however. I'll spoiler it for those who want to be surprised.

I have to revive this thread because this is a huge deal. This was revealed in today's Nintendo Direct and was totally unexpected. Spoilers below.
