I saw that picture before I knew what was going on. I said it was "light blue and brown"

On a technical note, the colour that you see isn't the actual physical colour of the given object, but rather the colour that's being reflected off of the object. The actual physical colour of the object at hand is the rest of the spectrum excluding the colour that you see. Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3unPcJDbCc

now the fun is trying to retrick my brain to see white and gold again :P
ADevilishPotato - Fri Feb 27, 2015 10:51 pm
I love looking at things that continue to prove that you really see things with your brain, not your eyes. I at first just saw white and gold, but taking a few steps back and squinting really hard, I see blue and black. Now even up close I cannot see white and gold...IDK what the color was originally and really it doesnt matter, just the fact that this happened in my brain is cool

Well, the Amazon reviews are in for the dress in question, and they hadn't disappointed: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00SJEUCWU/ref=tsm_1_fb_lk

My wife and i fought over the color of the dress, she thought I was deliberately being obstinate. I told her she was focusing too much on the light pollution.
Greebo - Fri Feb 27, 2015 8:45 pm
I saw the dress as different colors at different times. Browser tab didn't change but the lighting conditions where I was did (initially saw it as white/gold, then blue/black and now back to white/gold). It's not a troll, but quite interest from a perception POV

I will miss Spock as well. The dress is confusing! On a side note, I lost my voice today...let me know if you see it laying around. :)

Thanks Stevo, that's the best explanation I've read (and has examples). (But it IS white & gold.)
Uber! - Fri Feb 27, 2015 8:09 pm
Thats exactly what it is
Will T. - Fri Feb 27, 2015 8:08 pm
I've seen the pictures, but I don't understand what the big deal is. Unless it's just a massive troll with people swapping the pictures around just to mess with people, which is what it sounds like from that description.
Uber! - Fri Feb 27, 2015 8:06 pm
There was a picture of some blue and black dress that was edited a bit to look gold and white and each post you saw it on had either the blue/ black or gold/white, causing controversy.
Will T. - Fri Feb 27, 2015 7:41 pm
As someone who was born ~50% colorblind, I have no idea what the dress thing is even about, and the more explanations I read, the less sense it makes.
Joel - Fri Feb 27, 2015 6:42 pm
Apparently, even my mother and I can't agree on the colour of that dress that's been circulating on the Web lately. :/

<3 Leonard Nemoy... I cried this morning. My tears were illogical.

Live long and prosper Mr. Spock.

Yeah. Narbacular Drop is basically Portal minus Aperture Science. You can try it out for yourself - it's well worth a play-through.

@dark: good to hear, semester will be over before you know it and then you can rebuild!
Zork Nemesis - Fri Feb 27, 2015 5:23 am
From what I understand, Portal came from a Digipen Institute project called "Narbacular Drop" that Valve noticed and thought was awesome, or something along those lines
Emily Bront√ęsaurus - Thu Feb 26, 2015 10:52 pm
I have some friends who work at Valve, and that is very similar to the story I've heard of how Portal came about.
Will T. - Thu Feb 26, 2015 10:36 pm
In other words, having an awesome resume doesn't matter as much as making something cool that they think can be made even cooler if they were to work on it.

Robin Walker gave a talk at my campus today on how to get a job at Valve. The secret is to get people talking about your project, then show Valve that they're talking about it.
